SUMMARY:         
Under the general supervision of the Manager of Specialty Court Services and in accordance with established statutes and policies, the Specialty Court Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the department. Employees in this title are expected to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•    Supervise and mentor assigned staff (case managers, probation officers), including workload assignment, performance management, and professional development, providing training, implementing corrective action plans, approving time, assuring appropriate staffing coverage, acknowledging accomplishments, aiding and issuing discipline. 
•    Ensure the ongoing professional development of case managers, probation officers and other specialty court staff assigned to the program by providing appropriate training and supervision.
•    Secure program funding by identifying, writing, and submitting grant proposals or assisting others in the preparation and timely submission of grant proposals. 
•    Ensure accurate and timely data collection and reporting to the Court and grantors, including monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports, and compiling accurate and timely statistical reports.
•    Manage the referral process, including coordinating applications and reviewing eligibility for program acceptance in a timely manner. 
•    Facilitate effective treatment referrals by participating in case conferences with treatment providers. 
•    Evaluate treatment services and maintain knowledge of community substance abuse and mental health resources to inform referrals.
•    Foster strong communication and collaboration among all team members and stakeholders to achieve program goals.
•    Schedule and participate in team meetings.
•    Research, develop, draft, and present procedures and policies for review and approval.
•    Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with community service agencies to support program services.
•    Address and resolve inquiries, complaints, and issues from various sources. 
•    May perform case management duties as assigned. 
•    Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
•    Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Human Services, Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.  Master’s Degree or Graduate Certification preferred.
•    Two (2) years of experience in paid case management, substance abuse treatment services, or mental health services. 
•    One (1) year of paid experience as a supervisor or lead worker. 
•    Grant writing experience preferred. 
•    Experience using MS Word, Excel, Outlook and relevant software and systems.
•    (Veterans Treatment Court Coordinator Candidates): Honorably Discharged Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces preferred. 
•    If an employee drives on behalf of the Court, the employee must possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license, no fault insurance and access to a vehicle to use in the performance of assigned duties.
•    Experience commensurate with the job that demonstrates the required skills and competencies may be considered in lieu of education requirement(s).

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
•    Strong knowledge of grant writing, budget management, and report preparation.
•    Excellent facilitation, presentation and meeting management skills. 
•    Familiarity with legal system procedures and Court Operations is preferred. 
•    Proven analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. 
•    Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
•    Ability to remain calm and effective in stressful situations.
•    Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with diverse individuals and organizations.
•    Ability to operate office equipment.
•    Ability to understand and carry out instructions and to request clarification when needed.
•    Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
•    Skill in managing one’s own time and the time of others, as well as the ability to meet deadlines.
•    Thorough knowledge of Juvenile or Criminal Court processes and procedures preferred. 
•    Proven ability to exercise sound judgement and maintain confidentiality.
•    Ability to work with a diverse population.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
•    Successful completion of criminal and IV-D background check, fingerprinting, and rechecks.
•    Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
•    Must be able to lift 25 lbs.

Grant funded positions are contingent on availability of grant funding and may be terminated should funding substantially reduce or cease. The affected employee may be considered as a candidate for other vacant positions within the Court for which they are qualified.
