Description
Third Way Center is looking for a full time Controller to work as a member of our team. The Controller position will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial health and operational efficiency of the organization by overseeing the accounting, financial, budgeting and billing activities of the company. We are seeking a candidate who brings a blend of technical expertise, attention to detail, and strong leadership capabilities. The ideal candidate will excel in managing comprehensive financial operations, fostering team collaboration, and enhancing both efficiency and accuracy in the financial health of the organization. The Controller reports directly to the Assistant Executive Director (CFO). You will assist in advancing Third Way’s mission, values, and philosophy. You will participate in the strategic planning, best practices, and governance of the organization. This position is both a supervisory and individual contributor role. You will oversee a team of 4 staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the month-end close and financial reporting activities.
- Oversee and administer our Financial Edge Accounting and reporting system and enforce internal controls.
- Monitor day-to-day accounting activities including journal entry reviews and posting activity.
- Directs and coordinates all accounting practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.
- Oversee the annual financial audit, 990 tax, and 403b reporting process by working directly with our external audit firm.
- Point of contract for the annual 403b retirement plan audit, working directly with the audit firm to provide year end schedules and census data.
- Manage and maintain the Agency 403(B) retirement plan, process contributions and matching program.
- Oversee the external billing processes to ensure timely billing and collection of receivables.
- Assist the Assistant Executive Director with all outside contracting agencies, rate setting and client contract activities.
- Provide outside agency reporting functions as well as grant cost reporting. Respond to internal and external stakeholder inquiries pertaining to financial results. Manage the external contract process related to Client placements as well as financial business contracts.
- Other responsibilities include, but not limited to, backup support for the HR Department for hiring and payroll needs (including status changes, new hires, terminations, pay changes, pay increases/decreases), oversee vehicle maintenance and the purchase card program.
Qualifications
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong skills in accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and reconciliations.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, particularly Financial Edge.
- Attention to detail and documentation.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Organizational and problem-solving skills.
- A collaborative mindset and ability to support cross-functional teams.
- Understanding of GAAP accounting.
- Thorough understanding and use of email (G-Suite), and Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of healthcare billing including Medicaid and Colorado Regional Accountability Entity (RAE), is important.
Minimum requirements:
- BS degree in Accounting
- 10 years’ experience in full accounting and reporting yearly cycles.
- 7 years’ experience in general ledger operations management.
- 3 years’ experience in managing a team.
- CPA desired but not required.

The candidate must possess a current valid Colorado driver's license, have a clean driving record(no DUI/DWAI in the last five years), clean criminal record and be at least 23 years of age.
