A partner company is seeking a Painter/Blaster for a shipyard in Vicksburg, MS. This role involves preparing and applying protective coatings to marine vessels, barges, and structural components. Responsibilities include surface preparation through abrasive blasting, cleaning, and painting to meet industry standards and project specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Blasting Operations:
- Perform abrasive blasting to clean vessel surfaces, remove rust, and prepare for painting.
- Operate and maintain sandblasting equipment, hoses, and safety gear.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and containment measures to minimize environmental impact.
- Inspect work areas and surfaces to meet required blasting profiles per job specifications.
- Painting & Coating:
- Apply marine-grade coatings, primers, and paints using spray, brush, and roller techniques.
- Mix and thin paints according to manufacturer recommendations and job requirements.
- Utilize airless sprayers and conventional spray equipment to achieve high-quality finishes.
- Follow industry standards such as SSPC (Society for Protective Coatings) and NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers).
- Perform touch-ups, final inspections, and quality control checks.
- General Duties & Compliance:
- Operate forklifts, lifts, and scaffolding as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including proper disposal of hazardous materials.
- Adhere to OSHA, EPA, and Coast Guard safety regulations.
- Collaborate with project managers, welders, and other team members to meet project deadlines.
- Complete required documentation and work orders accurately.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in industrial painting and blasting.
- Familiarity with surface preparation techniques such as SSPC-SP 10 (Near-White Metal Blast Cleaning).
- Ability to read and interpret paint specifications, thickness requirements, and blueprints.
- Knowledge of HVLP and airless spray equipment operation and maintenance.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces, heights, and outdoor environments.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality control.
- Welding experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Work in extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and elevated work areas.
- Wear respirators, blast hoods, and protective clothing for extended periods.
