Manage and maintain database management abstraction of clinical data from multiple sources and as required by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF) and the Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Trauma Division.Job Description
- Collect and abstract demographic, clinical, process of acute care, outcome, and performance improvement data per PTOS standards.
- Data abstraction, coding, review, customization and maintenance of the Trauma Registry.
- Daily submission of data to the Pennsylvania Trauma Outcome Study database in compliance with state standards.
- Identify all trauma patients admitted to JEHM and encountered by trauma service and flag these patients in the Cerner system. Generate data reports for trauma research.
- Active participation in Trauma Performance Improvement program initiatives and peer review meetings for trauma center reaccreditation with the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation.
- Data abstraction, coding for the national trauma database, and for TQIP submission; require monthly participation in TQIP education.
- Create, update, and distribute daily census to trauma team members.
- Working knowledge and experience with ICD10 diagnostic and procedure coding.
- Compiles data following NTDS and NTRACS data requirement guidelines.
- Completes abstracts of all data from admission to discharge on assigned charts.
- Collects patient records (pre- and post-discharge) for review, analysis, and entry of diagnosis into the trauma registry database.
- Assist with research projects, external agency reporting, and performance improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Some college preferred
- 2-3 years of healthcare experience, excellent working knowledge of Anatomy
- and physiology, medical terminology, ICD10 CM, PCS coding, (ICD10 training courses preferred),
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.
- Competency with Microsoft Office, and Database management.
- Analytical skills for data management for report writing
Licenses/Certifications:
- Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) required within 2 years of hire
Basic Trauma Registry Course upon hire
AAAM AIS within 1 year of hire
