Internal Job Title : Development Specialist
Main Function :
Under the Direction of the Development Director, the Development Specialist is an intermediate fundraising generalist with particular emphasis on planning, managing, and implementing annual fund, donor solicitation, cultivation and stewardship, donor communication programs, and special events. Lives the CARES values at all times.

Excellent communication skills with exceptional writing, editing and proofreadingAbility to manage and direct special events and assist with soliciting sponsorships / supportIndependently manages direct and digital mail correspondence and ensures prompt routine donor communications and gift acknowledgementsPartners with Director to solicit and steward donorsDrafting letters on inquiry and foundation requestsDemonstrates excellent organizational and project management skills and the ability to prioritize daily activitiesAble to work independently on projects and meet deadlines with little or no supervisionDemonstrates the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with volunteers, Thompson Associates and Board members, donors, prospective donors, and other external partiesActively guards the confidentiality of sensitive information including but not limited to donors, staff and the health system.Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite – including specific talent with Word and ExcelDemonstrates skill with Constant Contact, donor databases, project management software; ability to learn new technologies requiredA dedication to professional growthKey Responsibilities :
Publicity / Donor Communications (40%)Writes a wide range of communications for donor solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship purposes which may include website, e-communication, direct mail, publications, impact reports, promotion / publicity, acknowledgements
Develop and manage a donor communications plan to enhance awareness, giving and stewardshipOversee social media and digital outreach and website for Fundraising purposesWork closely with Corporate Communications / Marketing department to facilitate communication / marketing needsGeneral Fundraising (30%)Work with Director of Development to plan and oversee a comprehensive solicitation, cultivation and stewardship strategy for all levels of donors
Manage and direct a comprehensive annual fund programAssist with identifying, engaging, cultivating, soliciting & stewarding current & prospective donors, in expanding philanthropic support of the FoundationIndependently manage a portfolio of current and prospective donors to ensure their continued engagement with the FoundationInitiate and develop meaningful engagement activities for the purpose of identifying and maintaining donorsAttain financial benchmarksAssist with the creation, adjustment and management of fundsIn partnership with the Development Director, oversee the grant-seeking effortsSpecial Event Planning (20%)Oversee fundraising / friendraising events including planning, logistics, timelines, budgets, corporate partnerships, creative development, and tracking
Independently manage a portfolio of event sponsors and develop prospective sponsorshipsSolicit corporate partners for event financial and in-kind supportPromotes recognition of events, sponsors, participants and volunteersPromotes and provides complete oversight of third-party eventsCoordinates and attends committee meetingsResponsible for the acknowledgment of sponsors, participants, volunteers, etc.Submit requests for support of event(s) to community foundations and organizationsEnsure accurate data is entered into the Foundation's donor database (Oasis)Responsible for organizing and documenting event / project detailsResponsible for reporting community benefits and results of special eventsAssist the Thompson Guild with their fundraising eventsGeneral (10%)Other duties as assigned
Qualifications :
Valid NYS Driver's License requiredRequired two-year Associate degree in liberal arts or equivalent experience.Preferred Bachelor's degree in communication, marketing, liberal arts, or related field.Required 2-3 years in fundraising, project / event management or public relations.Preferred 2-3 years in healthcare fundraising development.Company Culture :
