Regional Employee Services (HR) Generalist
Job Summary:
The Employee Services (Human Resources) Generalist “serves our workforce” internally like customer service serves externally. The Generalist will act as a business partner to all employee levels with a fierce focus on ensuring Best-in-Class service and support in a rapidly growing region. Reporting to the Regional Director of Employee Services, this role is responsible for HR functions across the employee life cycle, including post-hiring and onboarding, benefits enrollment and service, payroll duties, HRIS, training, employee relations and conflict management, safety and worker’s compensation programs, compliance/employment law, and offboarding/terminations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Coordinates with location managers to provide Onboarding for new hires and newly acquired employees, delivering and assisting with new-hire orientations and system implementation.
- Administers and supports benefits programming, including employee support, communication, liaising with benefits brokers and providers, and processing enrollments and life-event changes.
- Completes payroll related tasks and duties, pay procedures, and assistance with unemployment claims in accordance with regional needs. May processes weekly payroll for specified Apex Atlantic Trade Partner businesses including commissions.
- Responsible for HRIS maintenance and reporting of job information, including title, reporting structure, FLSA status, Workers Compensation codes, etc. for purposes of ensuring data accuracy.
- Coordinates safety, compliance, and training activities with specified Apex Atlantic Trade Partners including tracking monthly safety training.
- Processes workers compensation claims, works with insurance carrier on return-to-work strategy, and liaises with location to ensure protocol and restrictions are followed.
- Assists leader with implementation and deployment of Employee Services SOPs and procedures across the life cycle.
- Executes terminations and off-boarding processes and procedures including all system access removals, agency reporting, and final pay and benefits delivery.
- Assists leader with data reporting for annual internal, external, and compliance audits.
- Supports Director of Employee Services/HR with implementation of changes to job structure and pay scales.
- Other relevant duties as assigned by leader.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge and experience with Human Resources disciplines spanning the employee life cycle, including onboarding, benefits enrollment and service, payroll and compensation practices, training, conflict management and resolution, compliance/employment law, and terminations.
- Knowledge of HRIS systems and capabilities including reporting, data management, and processing.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to pivot as needs shift.
- Strong organizational skills with sharp attention to detail
- Ability to flex and adapt to a rapidly growing team
- Travel up to 10 – 15%
Education and Experience:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources / Business Administration-related field of study, OR less-relevant / lesser degree with commensurate experience plus relevant training and certification.
- Two to five years’ progressive experience in a Human Resources role with experience in multiple disciplines across the employee life cycle.
Preferred:
- Graduate degree in Human Resources or business-related field of study.
- SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification.
- Strong experience with ADP Workforce Now for payroll processing, benefits administration, and reporting.
Compensation:
Salary:
- Range: $60,000 - $85,000, dependent on experience
- Salary reviewed annually

Reporting directly to the Regional President and working very closely with both the California Leadership Teams and Apex Partner Services Director of Employee Services, the Regional Employee Services (HR) Manager/Director will play a key leadership role.
Areas of impact may include:
HR Process & Administration
- Provide a Best-in-Class Onboarding experience to all incoming employees
- Build and lead a team of Employee Services specialists to support the region’s rapid growth.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with Market Presidents and General Managers to execute and manage Employee Services programs and projects.
- Achieve 100% employee data accuracy in all systems, providing assurance to all key stakeholders that KPIs and reporting are accurate and consistent throughout all organizational systems.
- Lead the Risk & Safety program at the Regional Level and oversee the program in order to ensure a highly compliant and successful program.
- Partner with Apex Corporate Development and Apex HR Operations to execute highly successful M&As.
- Identify as the regional expert in California Employment Compliance in all areas of the Employee Services function.
- Ensure all employees receive all training and education required in the areas of Compliance, Employee Relations, and Risk & Safety.
Talent Management & Engagement
- Partner with Regional President, MAPs, and GMs to build and lead Employee Retention Efforts, leveraging employee surveying and Culture/Retention programming.
- Assist in building a culture of performance accountability.
- Contribute to and help manage industry leading engagement and management development training.
Business Impact, & Technology
- Become the regional expert on people technologies in the business to leverage full functionality.
- Create and align Employee Services metrics to the business.
Qualifications
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field, OR a lesser degree with additional relevant commiserate experience
- 5 – 10 years of prior HR Generalist (spanning all key pillars) experience required in a leadership role
- HR Certification or Micro-Credential in California Employment Law is strongly preferred
- Highly motivated, comfortable working autonomously
- Excellent skills developing and managing metrics, while keeping a People First mindset
- Ability to effectively communicate HR processes into simple solutions for non-HR employees
- Strong experience in leading / driving processes
- Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail and teamwork
- Able to operate effectively even when information may be incomplete or limited

Location: The Regional ES Manager/Director will work from a location within the region (California), as agreed-upon.
Compensation: A competitive compensation package will be available to the selected candidate.
