What You'll Do as Material Procurement Manager
- Build and maintain strong vendor partnerships, monitoring performance to ensure alignment with business expectations.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for all direct-purchased materials and verify pricing with external sources.
- Provide accurate material estimates to the Preconstruction Department for budgeting and project proposals.
- Issue purchase orders, coordinate submittals, and manage material delivery schedules in collaboration with project superintendents.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to vendor performance, delivery discrepancies, damages, and defective materials.
- Develop and monitor processes to prevent material shortages and overages, optimizing supply chain efficiency across all project worksites and reload areas.
- Coordinate surplus redistribution or returns to suppliers when necessary.
- Reconcile purchase orders with invoices and escalate discrepancies.
- Visit job sites and reload areas to inspect delivered materials and ensure quality control standards are met.
- Train on-site staff on delivery tracking and inventory systems.
- Provide Project Managers with updated cost projections for Cost to Complete (CTC) reporting.
- Build and lead a high-performing procurement team, ensuring ongoing support and success across all procurement functions.
Our Ideal Candidate for Material Procurement Manager
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience: Minimum of 6 years in procurement, estimating, and construction management roles, with increasing responsibility.
- Strong understanding of construction means and methods, project drawings and specifications, cost accounting, and project scheduling.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint) and comfortable with construction management software.
- Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Proven ability to lead and collaborate in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Highly detail-oriented with strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple, concurrent construction projects.
