Thompson Thrift is seeking a Preconstruction Project Engineer to join our team in Indianapolis, IN. In this role, you'll play a vital part in shaping the future of multifamily construction by supporting the development of projects from the conceptual phase through the completion of construction documents. As a key member of the preconstruction team, you’ll work closely with design professionals, contractors, and consultants to ensure the seamless execution of high-quality multifamily developments.
Your Role as Preconstruction Project Engineer
As the Preconstruction Project Engineer, you will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of project design from conceptual phase through complete construction documents on behalf of the project owner. You will review plans, manage design professionals, and ensure an accurate and complete set of construction drawings for the contract. You’ll work alongside the Preconstruction Manager to coordinate all project requirements set forth by the city/municipalities, design consultants, and third-party providers.
You will also collaborate with the general contractor throughout the design process to ensure the construction budget aligns with the project’s proforma.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Review plans at each phase to identify deficiencies, coordination issues between disciplines, conformance to Thompson Thrift Residential Standards, accessibility issues, cost and constructability issues, etc.
- Create and manage RFPs for contractor proposals.
- Analyze contractor proposals for accuracy and budget conformance and communicate issues and opportunities to the development team and general contractor.
- Review and interpret geotechnical reports, ensuring design conforms with recommendations.
- Assist in meetings with design consultants to provide insights and updates.
- Help manage the building permit process from application through issuance.
- Maintain proactive communication with stakeholders to ensure alignment and project success.
Our Ideal Candidate for this Role
- Education: 4-year degree (preferably in Construction Management, Architecture, or related field).
- Experience: 3-5 years of preconstruction, project management, or land development experience.
- Skills: Advanced computer skills, including MS Office and project management tracking software.
- Ability to lead meetings with assertiveness and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of construction pricing, including familiarity with accessibility codes.
- Competencies: Ability to identify plan deficiencies across all design disciplines (Architectural, Structural, MEP, Civil, and Landscape).
- Attention to detail and a willingness to learn and grow.
