What are the responsibilities and job description for the Process Technician (Plastic Injection Molding) position at Thomson Plastics, Inc.?
Overview:
Our facility in Thomson, Georgia is conveniently located to major interstate highways. We have over 200,000 square feet dedicated to manufacturing, assembly and warehousing, and our facility maintains 38 presses ranging from 220 tons to 3150 tons. Our 6 on-site silos, 15 shipping/receiving docks and rail spur enable us to safely and efficiently manage the resins we use for manufacturing our high quality products.
Responsibilities and Authority
· Start-up and maintain molding machines for production by entering data per approved setup sheets.
· Responsible for part quality coming off of press.
· Critical Success Factor on process setups must be followed.
· Submit first piece article to the Quality Department for approval (QA-0100 Press Floor Audit Checklist)
· Monitor setup operation for new jobs for presses (mold setting – material change – first piece process, auxiliary equipment, all functions are operating correctly and a Green PM tag is attached to mold).
· Follow defined work instructions
· Ensure that process changes are documented on the Setup Change Log when outside of established parameters.
· Develop new process setups for mold/press.
· Develop water and clamping diagrams when needed.
· Monitor accuracy of process setups throughout shift.
· Stop production and/or delivery if necessary to correct quality problems.
· Ensure that all machines are running at approved cycle.
· Troubleshoot and answer machine alarms to improve production and reduce downtime.
· Ensure secondary equipment is hooked-up and working.
· Make adjustments to equipment as needed (robots, press control panel, etc.)
· Assist the Mold Setter with setting molds as needed.
· Assist with the on-going training of Mold Setters.
· Train mold setters to process as requested.
· Have flexibility to complete projects assigned.
· Use correct PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) – Safety glasses; Safety Sleeves; Heat resistant gloves, etc.
· Monitor daily schedule for mold and material changes.
· Direct material changes.
· Use appropriate safety equipment.
· These responsibilities are flexible and may change as needed.
· Attend team meetings as required.
· Maintain zone area and assist other zones when requested.
· Maintain the Quality Management System as it pertains to area of responsibility.
· Change molds per daily production schedule (TO-WI-03 Mold Set-Up Work Instruction and TO-WI-04 Mold Removal Work Instruction may be used as a guide).
· Ensure previous mold/process setup binder is removed from press and put into the Setup Binder Cabinet. Only one binder should be at press.
· Change molds in the time allotted in IQMS.
· Tag molds as required (red, brown, green, etc).
· Communicate between shifts to ensure a smooth turnover.
· Immediately notify the Processing Engineer, Manufacturing Manager or Plant Manager of any problems.
· Assist in the implementation of new equipment, processes and projects at Thomson Plastics, Inc.
· Have flexibility to complete projects assigned by the Shift Supervisor.
· Perform End of run mold PMs and assist in Tooling Shop.
· Assist with minor maintenance of equipment.
· Ensure that the requirements of ISO-9001 are met within assigned areas of responsibility.
· These responsibilities are flexible and may change as needed.
· Must work weekends and holidays as required.
Qualifications
· Knowledge of or experience with plastic processes, machinery and their effect on quality.
· Prior Mold Setting experience
· Firm understanding of resin and their properties.
· Knowledge of Gas Assist preferred.
· Have knowledge of Thermarator and DME equipment.
· Knowledge on how to adjust controls of equipment to make a good part.
· Basic knowledge of robotics.
· Basic knowledge of tool (mold) and how it works.
· Paulson and/or RJG training preferred.
· Ability to manage others.
· Forklift training.
· On-the-job training
· Ability to communicate and work well with others.
· Basic computer skills.
· Basic mechanical skills.

Pay: $23.00 - $29.00 per hour
