We are currently seeking a FULL-TIME Certified OPHTHALMIC TECHNICIAN to join our team and our growing hospital. The ideal Ophthalmic Technician candidate can demonstrate an understanding of essential Ophthalmic Technician competencies and apply them in a fast-paced environment.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Ophthalmic Technician works under the general supervision of the Ophthalmologist or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment as allowed and ordered by the physician.

The responsibilities of the Ophthalmic Technician include, but are not limited to:

  • Take patient medical, past medical, family and medication histories.
  • Measure and record visual acuities, intraocular pressures and refracting patients.
  • Evaluate the pupil and examine the eye for afferent papillary defect.
  • Perform testing such as visual field, OCT, disc photos and IOL measurements
  • Administer eye drops.
  • Also inventories and orders supplies and drugs following protocol and as appropriate.
  • Surveys technical instruments and equipment and arranges for service calls.
  • Prepares clinic for routine readiness review and maintains a clean/sterile environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Successful completion of an accredited program for Ophthalmic Technician
  • 1 year experience as an Ophthalmic Technician is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient group
  • Ability to work independently and productively in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be detail-oriented and highly organized
