JOB TITLE: Dietary Hospitality Aide
REPORTS TO: Director of Dietary
PURPOSE OF YOUR JOB DESCRIPTION
The primary purpose of your job description is to provide assistance with dietary functions as directed/instructed and in accordance with established dietary policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Assistant Director of Dietary, to ensure that residents have a safe and enjoyable experience in the dining room.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare residents for meals; wash hands, position tables, place clothing protectors, take to/from dining room, etc.
- Serve food trays, assist with cutting foods, providing condiments and assist in dining room supervision.
- Assist with passing fluids in the dining room.
- Provide residents assistance with eating and drinking with proper training.
- Ensure residents identity before administering service, serving meals, etc.
- Assist residents with identifying food arrangements (i.e., informing resident with vision problems of foods that are on his/her tray, where it is located, if it is hot/cold, etc.).
- Perform after meal care; remove trays, clean residents hands, face, and clothing. Bring dirty clothing protectors bag to the linen bucket. Take utensils to dishwashing area.
- Handle and prepare foods and fluids in accordance with sanitary regulations.
- Assist in daily or scheduled cleaning duties, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Take and place meal orders.
- Transport residents to and from dinning services, activities and any other place they would like to go via wheelchair.
- Assist with inventory and stocking the kitchen pods.
- Disinfect and clean high touch surface areas. Clean work tables, meat blocks, refrigerators/freezers, etc. Sweep and mop floors as directed
- Carry out garbage and keep work areas clean, dry, and free of hazardous equipment, supplies, etc.
- Deliver food carts to designated areas
- Follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis as well as a calm environment throughout the neighborhood and shift.
- Perform all other duties as may be assigned by your supervisor.
PERSONNEL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with our established policies and procedures, and as instructed by your supervisors
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well as with other departments within the facility to assure that food service can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
SANITARY REQUIREMENTS:
- Wash hands before and after performing any service for the resident.
- Follow established safety precautions in the performance of all duties.
- Keep floors dry. Wipe up spills immediately.
- Clean, disinfect, and return all resident care equipment to its designated storage area after each use.
- Report all safety violations.
- Follow established procedures in the use and disposal of personal protective equipment.
EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLY FUNCTIONS:
- Use only the equipment you have been trained to use.
- Operate all equipment in a safe manner.
- Use only the equipment and supplies necessary to do the job. Do not be wasteful.
RESIDENT RIGHTS:
- Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.
- Ensure that you treat all residents fairly and with kindness, dignity and respect.
- Ensure that all nursing care is provided in privacy.
- Knock before entering the resident’s room.
- Report all grievances and complaints made by the resident to the Charge Nurse.
- Report all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident Property to Charge Nurse immediately.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works throughout the dining room and nursing service area (i.e., nurses stations, resident’s rooms, etc.).
- Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours.
- Is subject to frequent interruptions.
- Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc.; under all circumstances.
- Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
- Communicates with dietary personnel, nursing personnel and other department personnel.
- Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday.
- Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including HIV, COVID-19 and Hepatitis B viruses.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to speak, read and write the English language.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
- Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
- Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
- Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the work place.
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies.
- Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
- Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.
- Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
- Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment.
