Job Description
Based in Lexington, KY, this position is responsible for the care and maintenance of trees, plants and shrubs surrounding the main office, stallion barn, entrances, and houses. The successful candidate must have an in-depth knowledge in the care and maintenance for all plant matter but have an eye for design and ideas for the beautification of their areas of responsibility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Grounds and Landscaping Maintenance role is to maintain the general grounds and aesthetics of the property and business residence by performing the following duties:
- Areas of farm property maintenance include main front entrance, other gated entrances, drive areas, office vicinity, stallion complex and guest houses.
- Keeps all drives, walkways, porches, activity areas clean by daily blowing and/or washing as necessary.
- Lawn areas: Fertilize and seeding of lawn areas as instructed by the Maintenance Manager. Seeding and repairing of bare or dead spots.
- Knowledge and ability to spray chemicals for weed removal
- Landscape Beds: Maintain all flowers (perennial and annual) throughout the growing season. May include watering, fertilizing, planting, pruning, mulching, weeding, edging, and dead-heading as instructed by the Maintenance Manager.
- Residential and Staff Houses: Maintenance of lawn trees and landscape beds by mulching, weeding, pruning, watering, fertilizing, and spraying.
- Trees and Shrubs: Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth. Remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs. Discard any dead or downed limbs from trees. Rake and remove leaves as needed.
- Water all flowers and landscape beds not irrigated.
- In the winter months, assisting in early morning snow removal when needed
- Must have a keen eye for aesthetics
- Must be able to perform the required daily duties in a timely manner with or without supervision and work closely with the maintenance team
Education/Experience
- Ability to apply common sense understanding
- Ability to deal with standardized situations
- Ability to operate equipment and tractors desired
- Knowledge of irrigation or ability to learn is desired
Essential Skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate to senior management, maintenance team members, contractors and vendors
- The ability to ensure that visually our property reflects our company's high standards and reflects our position as an industry leader
Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license is required.
