What will I do as a Landscape Lead?
- Provide maintenance of landscape including pruning, tree-trimming/removal, chipping, mowing, fertilizing, raking, aerating, seeding, mulching, watering, weeding, deadheading, cutting/splitting plants, removal and clean-up.
- Carry out planting of trees, shrubs, annual and perennial gardens, and planter boxes.
- Observe, identify, and treat diseases affecting the landscape.
- Act as lead worker in performing snow removal. This includes coordinating staff call-ins with the Director of Environmental Services (DES).
- Evaluate and recommend landscape activities and enhancements as well as equipment needed for landscaping and grounds.
- Supervise landscape and grounds contractors and volunteers working on the Three Pillars Campus.
- Document all work performed, including costs and other necessary information.
- Provide assistance to DES as needed in developing the Facilities and Grounds Department (FGD) budget.
- Maintain accountability for operating within FGD budget.
- Ensure that manuals, equipment, and other assets are regularly audited, updated, and accounted for.
- Assist DES on creation, implementation, and monitoring of policies and procedures for FGD.
- Ensure purchasing policies are followed and invoices are processed within guidelines.
What is required in this position?
- High school diploma/GED.
- Currently hold or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire commercial applicator licensure in the following: pesticide license, fertilization.
- Five (5) years of experience in Landscaping and one (1) year as a supervisor.
- Experience: Strong horticultural background to include landscaping designs preferred.
- Have a valid State of Wisconsin driver's license and the ability to transport self and materials to various locations on an occasional basis as well as drive company vehicles.
- The ability to set an exemplary model for staff through professional appearance, treatment of staff, and dedication to company goals.
- Make decisions based on factual information and logical conclusions. Consider alternate courses of consequences before acting.
- Ability to handle problem situations in a tactful, courteous, and respectful manner.
- Written and computer skills necessary to maintain various departmental records, documents, and reports.
- Ability to handle hostile or emotionally upset residents, staff, family, etc.
- Ability to analyze and troubleshoot equipment and process problems.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and nights as necessary.
