Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated college student pursuing a degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Environmental Science, Public Health, or a related field to assist with data entry, processing, and mapping for our mosquito control program. This entry-level position provides hands-on experience in GIS applications, spatial analysis, and field data integration to support public health efforts in vector control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enter, organize, and maintain mosquito control and surveillance data in GIS databases.
- Convert raw data to geospatial data using Excel tables
- Process and analyze spatial data to support vector control decision-making.
- Assist in creating maps, reports, and visualizations using GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Support field teams by managing and integrating GPS data collected from mosquito surveillance and control operations.
- Conduct quality control checks on GIS data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Research and compile environmental, weather, and population datasets relevant to mosquito control strategies.
- Assist with updating and maintaining GIS layers related to mosquito breeding sites, treatment areas, and control measures.
- Collaborate with public health and environmental professionals to improve mapping workflows.
- Create processes to improve efficiency of GIS record management.
- Perform other duties as assigned related to GIS and mosquito control operations.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a college program majoring in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Public Health, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of GIS concepts, spatial analysis, and data management.
- Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or other geospatial tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and database management.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, aerial imagery, and spatial datasets.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Interest in public health, environmental science, and vector control is a plus.
- Experience with GPS field data collection or drone imagery is a bonus.
