The Clinician is responsible for providing comprehensive psycho-social assessments, individual and family therapy, and specialized group sessions tailored to residents' needs. This role involves managing a caseload, developing and implementing treatment plans, facilitating process and educational groups, and actively participating in unit activities. The Clinician maintains ongoing communication with residents’ referral sources and families while ensuring accurate and timely documentation. Additionally, this position supports referral development efforts and upholds the highest standards of confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations and facility policies.
Essential Responsibilities
- Conduct psychosocial assessments to determine residents' needs.
- Provide individual, family, and group therapy.
- Develop and implement personalized treatment plans.
- Lead special focus groups and educational sessions.
- Maintain regular contact with residents' families, referral sources, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and confidential documentation of all clinical activities.
- Participate in unit activities, supporting a therapeutic and structured environment.
- Engage in referral development and maintain professional relationships with external partners.
- Adhere to mandatory staff development requirements as outlined by regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Uphold all HIPAA privacy regulations and facility policies regarding residents' personally identifiable health information.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong ability to present information effectively to diverse groups.
- Proficient in written and verbal communication in English.
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support resident care.
- Strong understanding of child and adolescent development, therapeutic interventions, and positive peer culture.
- Familiarity with psychiatric terminology and behavioral health principles.
- Ability to establish and maintain healthy therapeutic relationships with residents.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, and internetbased research.
Additional Information
- Must be at least 21 years of age, in accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia’s regulations for Children’s Residential Facilities.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related behavioral health field.
Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a behavioral health or therapy setting, working with the designated population.
Licenses/Certificates:
- Licensed Practical Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) by the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
- Trauma Certification (or completion within 90 days of hire).
- CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Behavioral Management Program Certification.
- Valid Driver’s License in good standing.
