Job Description
MerchSource, a leading consumer products company, is seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer to join our innovative team in Irvine, CA. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be at the forefront of innovation, driving the development of cutting-edge consumer products and toys. You will be responsible for:
- Research and Development: Conduct independent research into emerging technologies and materials to identify opportunities for innovation
- Prototyping and Testing: Design and build prototypes and conduct rigorous testing to validate design concepts and performance
- Engineering Design: Conceptualize, design, and develop mechanical components and assemblies in CAD
- Material Selection: Select appropriate materials based on factors like cost, durability, and performance requirements, often exploring unconventional solutions. Applicants should be very familiar with common injection molded plastics
- Collaboration: Be able to work with teams across multiple creative and business disciplines, including Industrial Design, Marketing, and Sales
- Innovation: Develop innovative products that differentiate the company's products
- Manufacturing Process Optimization: Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize production processes for efficiency and cost-effectiveness
- Problem-Solving: Identify and solve complex engineering challenges through creative problem-solving and analytical thinking
- Intellectual Property: Contribute to the development and protection of intellectual property
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 3-7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in product development or R&D
- Proficiency in CAD software (Solidworks preferred)
- Strong understanding of materials science, manufacturing processes, and FEA
- Knowledge of common injection molded plastics for consumer products
- Experience in prototyping, testing, and product validation
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Passion for innovation and a proactive approach to identifying new product opportunities
- Self-motivated and results oriented
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Engineering
- Experience building proof of concept prototypes for consumer products
- Experience designing components optimized for injection molding
- Experience designing complex mechanical/electromechanical systems
- Experience with patent filing and intellectual property protection
- Experience with basic electronic circuits, soldering, and programming
