Who we are:
Thriving Wildflowers is located in the SE Portland Woodstock neighborhood. We believe kids thrive with respect, age appropriate independence, creative exploration, and plenty of time outside. Our philosophy and approach is the culmination of our founder’s many years of experience in early childhood education from infancy through elementary school teaching. We are inspired by a variety of respectful childhood education styles including the work of Magda Gerber (RIE), Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Waldorf, and even gentle parenting.
Who we are looking for:
You genuinely enjoy exploring the world with children ages five and under. You are curious, creative, and excited to guide children in discovering their own passions through interest-led, play-based learning opportunities. You are a collaborative person who believes it truly takes a village to raise a child and are enthusiastic about welcoming parents and other family members to be a part of our preschool community.
Your Experience and Skills:
- You have experience working with groups of kids as young as 12 months old, with an emphasis on experience with ages one through five years old.
- You are comfortable planning and leading a wide range of activities including art, science, life skills, music and movement.
- You have experience with adapting lessons to meet the interests and developmental needs of both individual children and the group as a whole.
- You are familiar with and interested in further embracing respect-based early childhood education philosophies.
- You maintain a calm, reassuring presence even in a childcare setting that can sometimes become loud or chaotic.
- You are comfortable guiding children in learning to interact respectfully with others, our equipment, the environments, and our community as a whole by modeling the behavior you expect and consistently enforcing firm, yet compassionate boundaries.
- You are comfortable communicating with parents and other staff in English, both written and verbal. Multilingual abilities are also valued and appreciated.
- You are comfortable supervising other staff or volunteers (formally or informally), including asking for help and delegating duties as needed.
- You may have additional skills and interests such as playing an instrument, being multilingual, or knowing a specific craft that you are interested in sharing. We love to incorporate the skills and interests of everyone in our community whenever possible.
Requirements:
- Meet Teacher level requirements as defined by the Oregon Department of Early Learning and Care prior to beginning work as a Teacher.
