PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION: Responsible for the full spectrum of activities as it involves the lifecycle of an employee - including attraction and selection, training and development, compensation and benefits program management, employee relations, and advice and counsel to the management team. Performs HR Generalist responsibilities for the mine complex to ensure positive employee relations, optimal employee performance, and regulatory compliance. As part of the local management team, translates the mine business plan into effective HR practices and processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Provides employee relations direction and guidance in the setting of policies, developing expectations and objectives in an effort to maintain a safe, productive and union free work environment.
- Manages the workforce planning activities for all hourly and salaried employees. Includes forecasting needs, identifying and executing a recruitment strategy, managing the local university recruitment program, monitoring career paths, managing a local succession review process and managing the new employee orientation program.
- Develops, administers and interprets personnel policies for hourly and salary employees. Ensures compliance with required laws (EEO/AA, STD, FMLA).
- Responsible for overseeing all aspects of a company's payroll process, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time by managing payroll calculations, tax deductions, benefits administration, and compliance with relevant labor laws, while also supervising a payroll team and maintaining accurate payroll records.
- Advises on employee development and training opportunities and conducts training as appropriate.
- Develops and implements effective employee communication programs reinforcing policy information and core values.
- Maintains Affirmative Action, EEO, and other related records.
- Develops and monitors the annual HR budget.
REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- BS in Business Administration, Human Resources Management or related field, or equivalent experience
- 5 years of human resources experience with increasing responsibilities
- Experience in employment laws (FMLA, HIPPA, ADA, COBRA), benefits, employee relations, recruiting and retention, and HRIS.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication and presentation skills
- Ability to suggest creative solutions to enhance productivity and employee morale, and resolve sensitive problems quickly and effectively
- Ability to objectively coach employees and managers through complex, difficult, and emotional issues
- Computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Office Outlook
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in business, human resources, or related area
- Experience in mining, or other extractive industry
- Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification
- Workday experience
Salary : $115,000 - $150,000
