Overview
The Director of Animal Rescue is a vital leadership role responsible for managing the operations of our 501(c)(3) animal rescue organization. This position requires a passionate individual dedicated to the welfare of animals, with strong management skills to lead a team of volunteers and staff and provide financial oversight to ensure effective use of the organization's funding.
The Director is instrumental in managing programs, ensuring compliance with animal welfare laws, and fostering community relationships to promote animal adoption and care.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the intake, care, foster and adoption processes for rescued animals, ensuring their health and well-being.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for the effective operation of the animal rescue organization.
- Manage a team of staff and volunteers, providing training and support in animal handling and care.
- Prepare and present an Executive Director’s report at the monthly Board of Directors meeting.
- Manage the organization within the Board approved budget.
- Collaborate with veterinary professionals to ensure proper medical treatment for all animals in care.
- Maintain accurate records of animal intake, medical history, and adoption statistics.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding animal welfare.
- Develop partnerships with other organizations to enhance rescue efforts and resources.
- Assist the Marketing team, as needed, with the publicity goals of the organization to increase community awareness of Thundering Paws and its related programs.
Physical Job Requirements
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
- Must be able to work around animals (including diseased, injured and/or potentially aggressive animals).
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years in an animal welfare environment with at least 1 year in a management role.
- Experience as a veterinary technician or assistant is preferred.
- Proven leadership and management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office products.
- Familiarity with shelter /animal management software or desire to learn.
- Ability to work with, and handle cats, including those with health/behavioral conditions/concerns.
- Knowledge of feline medical/behavioral conditions.
