Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
The Administrative and Office Specialist III is responsible to provide administrative support in all aspects of the operation of the Campus Business Office.
Primary responsibilities include assisting students and the general public by answering inquiries related to fiscal policies and the operation of the business office, advising faculty and staff regarding state and college travel regulations, assisting with the review of travel requests, tuition refund appeals and organizational memberships for completeness, and assisting in the cashier office, as needed. Position utilizes various software applications and databases to input and/or retrieve data relating to procurement, budgets and travel. The position will be expected to work effectively with Virginia Beach campus academic divisions and student services offices, Payroll, AIS, Accounts Payable, Material Management and other internal offices.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Ability to use computers and various computer software.
- Skills in office practices and procedures as well as oral and written communication.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and general public.
- Knowledge of functional areas of accounting (cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, etc.)
- Knowledge of effective customer services.
- Ability to work independently and as a team player, prioritize workloads, anticipate and meet deadlines, and respond to changing priorities in an office environment.
- Ability to work accurately and effectively in a multi-task environment with frequent interruption.
- Ability to handle a variety of diverse duties.
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve as needed.
