Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
Part-Time positions will be scheduled up to 29 hours per week. Schedule will be mostly between Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Occasional evenings and weekends will also be required.
These positions are considered “essential personnel” as defined by TCC Policy 1401 and maybe required to work during an emergency or other times when the college campus is closed.
This part-time position performs preventive maintenance to included tasks of unskilled plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting as directed by the supervisor to ensure the appropriate appearance and maintenance of the buildings and grounds of Tidewater Community College Campuses.
This recruitment is to fill 2 positions, one position for Virginia Beach Campus and the other is for the Portsmouth Campus.
This position is considered “designated personnel” as defined by TCC Policy 1401 and maybe required to work during an emergency or other times when the college campus is closed.
Functional Responsibilities:
Job duties shall include, but are not limited to, basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, lock repair, snow/ice removal, and general maintenance. Assist co-workers as directed. Utilize state vehicle to pick-up, deliver, and move equipment and supplies. Work outside schedule hours as requested. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Basic knowledge of maintenance techniques/practices and equipment.
- Basic experience in one of the skill trades
- Skill in the use of hand tools and power tools.
- Knowledge of safety practices in skilled trades
- Ability to understand directions and to work independently
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to read and write
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to lift objects weighting up to 50 lbs
- Valid Driver’s License
