Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
The Program Specialist—an Education Support Specialist II—provides crucial programmatic and administrative support to the Academy for Nonprofit Excellence (ANE). Key responsibilities include planning and implementing program activities to increase enrollment and brand. Managing program administration, maintaining accurate records, drafting Letters of Agreement, vetting and preparing course materials. The person for this role will regularly interact with faculty, staff, instructors, and students. As such, they need to provide strong internal and external customer service. This position reports directly to the Program Coordinator.
This is grant funded position.
Functional Responsibilities:
1. Assist with developing and implementing program procedures which grow and enhance ANE programs ultimately increasing program revenue and participation.
2. Ensure program accessibility through organizing course calendar and inputting course offerings into database, assisting participants with registration.
3. Ensure policy compliance (for both grant and VCCS) is maintained for all ANE program offerings.
4. Assist with marketing and communications efforts, including e-blasts and weekly JobAlerts, to ensure positive brand image is maintained.
5. Maintain Academy records (grades, attendance, etc.) through various databases to meet reporting needs of funders and VCCS.
6. Provide student support including personalized coaching to increase certificate program completion.
7. Assist with creation of Letter of Agreements, reports, and correspondence to ensure program activities are functioning effectively.
8. Collaborate with Finance purchasing/billing for ANE program needs so program materials are available.
9. Provide staff support to the Program Coordinator to successfully carry out Academy programs and events.
10. Flexible working hours to support program offerings including some evenings and weekends
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Experience with scheduling program offerings, the preparation of program materials, and setting up event spaces.
- Familiarity with marketing techniques and mass communication platforms and such as Constant Contact or Mailchimp and social media platforms.
- Strong skills to coach program participants towards certificate completion.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including: Microsoft Excel and Access software for record keeping.
- Proficient in managing student and program records, including data input, retrieval, modification, and analysis while maintaining confidentiality.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Forms positive working relationships across our internal and external partners.
- Strong ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for interacting with staff, program participants, and the public.
