Position Summary
The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for prepping the patient for the provider to conduct the eye examines.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for screening patients (e.g., get medical history, update medications and allergies, check vision and dilate the pupils.
- Determine if further auxiliary testing is needed.
- Schedule surgery for patients and prepping paperwork required.
- Maintain a list of supplies needed for the office to ensure office is fully stocked.
- Responsible for charge entry.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of coding with modifiers.
- Knowledge of hospitals requirements for surgeries.
- Knowledge of eye medications.
- Skill in communicating clearly with diverse publics.
- Ability to work scheduled hours as defined in the job offer.
- Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
- Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations.
- Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions and follow written protocols.
Education / Training / Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
- Six to twelve months related experience/training.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to climb or balance for limited periods of time.
- Ability to occasionally reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 30 lbs. *
- Ability to grasp and hold up to 25 lbs.*
- Ability to hear normal voice level communications in person or through the telephone.
- Ability to speak clearly and understandably.
