Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Network Technician to play a pivotal role in maintaining and developing our fiber assets at the Discovery Park District at Purdue University. In the District, Tilson Infrastructure owns and operates approximately 15 miles of fiber, and plays the role of wholesale, neutral-host dark fiber provider to a half dozen Internet Service Providers (ISPs). These ISPs lease our fiber to provide retail internet services to students, residents and commercial tenants, as well as Mobile Network Operators (MNOs).
The Technician will be Tilson Infrastructure’s primary point of contact for clients and our partner, the Purdue Research Foundation. You will oversee all network additions and revisions, from the edge data center to the last mile connection at the tenant space. This includes coordination with our engineering and construction teams, Tilson Technology Management, Inc. and local contractors. You will also oversee internal functions, including the maintenance of our Geographic Information System (GIS) and customer billing.
Duties
- Act as the main Point of Contact accountable for the network, nurturing partner and client relationships and attending meetings in the District.
- Attend client, partner and internal team calls and provide updates as necessary on network enhancements.
- Conduct technical site walks and approve incoming customer service requests for new service locations.
- Manage contractors and consultants to ensure scope and completion dates are met for new implementations and maintenance/repairs. This may include: directing splicing, customer dis/connects to demarcation points, fiber cross-connect installations, on-site presence and support of customer installation in Data Center cabinets. This will also include troubleshooting in case of fiber cuts (identification of span/section of fault, cut, break, and then repair or coordinate vendor maintenance).
- Review close out packages to tenants upon construction completion.
- Maintain Fiber Management System (3GIS) for all moves, adds, changes, disconnects.
- Coordinate all billing charges with Accounting team on a monthly basis (new customers, utility invoices, etc.).
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in telecommunications, preferably with Inside Plant and/or Outside Plant fiber installations
- Provide 10-20 hours of work per week. Hours will vary week to week.
- Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills
