Advocate Job Description:
The shift available is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday; 4PM to Midnight; (40 hours a week)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Associates Degree or High School Diploma or equivalent, plus minimum two years’ experience in behavioral health, or related field preferred. Certification in CPR. Ability to obtain a level one fingerprint clearance card from Arizona Department of Public Safety and pass the Arizona Centralized Background Check.
NATURE AND SCOPE: This position is in a domestic violence residential facility (operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week). This position requires the ability to work equally well with a diverse range of populations and ethnicities including crime victims’, project donors, law enforcement, medical, and court professionals. Must be responsive to co-occurring disorders that arise from trauma; including substance abuse and mental health disorders.
Accountabilities:
- Provide crisis intervention to adults and children who have experienced domestic violence and/or sexual assault
- Answer agency phones, maintain call-log, screen hotline calls to determine eligibility.
- Perform in-take, orientation, case management, safety planning, one on one interaction, personal history, staffing, daily progress notes, and exit interviews for residents in our facility
- Research, and make appropriate referrals, to outside services to develop holistic support
- Transport and accompany residents to community locations in company vehicle
- Demonstrate assertiveness skills in mediation between residents, as needed
- Assist in training new staff and volunteers. Participate in outreach project activities.
- Adhere to strict state and agency policies on confidentiality regarding agency residents, guests, volunteers, employees or other business matters; always maintain professionalism
- Participate in staff & advocate meetings and trainings as required
- Coordinate and delegate daily housekeeping activities; provide cleaning & hygienic supplies and attend to resident nutritional needs
- Process all donations using designated procedure
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Is flexible in providing back-up support for other job duties/titles
- Ability to deliver a clear and consistent message to staff, and residents, according to policy
- Ability to maintain control over the facility while on shift.
- Excellent written, verbal, common sense, nonjudgmental & listening capabilities
- Demonstrate strength in empowering and assisting survivors to safe, self-sufficiency
- Ability to keep accurate/appropriate records that convey objective impression
- Effective organizational, problem solving, scheduling, and time management skills
- Ability to successfully complete background check
- Possess current driver’s license, agency required liability insurance, reliable automobile transportation, and able to drive agency vehicles for shelter transports.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and maintain current CPR/AED certification
