JOB TITLE: Thrift Store Manager (Full Time)

FUNCTION: Time Out Thrift Store is a non-profit thrift store dedicated to supporting Time Out Domestic Violence Shelter. Our store not only generates funding for vital programs but also serves as a welcoming community resource that raises awareness about domestic violence. We are seeking a dedicated and mission-driven Thrift Store Manager to oversee daily operations, manage staff and volunteers, and ensure the success of our store in fulfilling its mission.
Job Summary:
The Thrift Store Manager is responsible for the overall management of the store, including inventory control, staff supervision, customer service, sales performance, and community engagement. This role requires strong leadership, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for serving survivors of domestic violence.
RESPONSIBILITES:
- Store Operations & Sales
- Oversee daily store operations, ensuring a clean, organized, and welcoming shopping environment.
Staff & Volunteer Management
- Recruit, train, and supervise thrift store staff. Works with the Executive Director and Educational/Volunteer Coordinator in resolving conflicts, situations and personnel matters.
- With support of the Educational/Volunteer Coordinator, recruits, trains, evaluates, supervises, schedules and directs the activities of the thrift store volunteers.
- Is responsible for working with the Educational/Volunteer Coordinator to schedule and coordinate new volunteer orientations.
- Is responsible for scheduling and coordination of quarterly volunteer meetings.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Schedule shifts and oversee task assignments to ensure smooth operations.
Inventory & Donations
- Manage incoming donations, ensuring items meet store quality standards.
- Oversee sorting, pricing, and merchandising of items to optimize sales.
- Develop partnerships with local businesses and organizations to increase donations.
Community Engagement & Awareness
- Represent the store and shelter’s mission to the community.
- Develop marketing and outreach strategies, including social media promotions and community events.
- Ensure that all interactions align with trauma-informed care principles and maintain confidentiality regarding shelter residents.
- Develop and implement sales strategies to maximize revenue that supports the shelter.
- Maintain accurate records of sales, expenses, and inventory.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and operational policies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous retail management experience preferred, particularly in a thrift store or non-profit setting
- Strong interpersonal and relationship –building skills as well as the ability to interact positively with others, including those coming from different cultures and perspectives.
- Effective organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to set up processes, systems and procedures.
- Experience working with volunteers and diverse populations is a plus.
- Commitment to the mission of supporting domestic violence survivors.
- Ability to lift and move merchandise up to 40 lbs. and to stand and walk for long periods of time.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
MININUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, retail management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of retail management experience, preferably in a thrift store or non-profit setting.
- Experience supervising and training staff and/or volunteers.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact compassionately with diverse populations.
- Basic financial and inventory management skills, including cash handling and sales tracking.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and ability to learn point-of-sale (POS) systems.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Ability to obtain a Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card from the State of Arizona and successfully pass a background check.
- Possess a current Driver’s License.
