Job Summary:
The Time Out Thrift Store Clothing Associate plays a vital role in supporting the mission of Time Out Domestic Violence Shelter by ensuring that the thrift store operates efficiently and provides a welcoming shopping experience. This position is responsible for sorting, pricing, and displaying clothing donations, maintaining an organized sales floor, and assisting customers and shelter residents with their clothing needs.
Proceeds from the thrift store directly support survivors of domestic violence, making this role an essential part of the shelter’s ability to provide safe housing and critical resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sort and Process Donations: Inspect, sort, and organize donated clothing items, ensuring quality and cleanliness before placing them on the sales floor.
- Pricing and Merchandising: Tag and price items appropriately, following store guidelines, and create appealing displays to maximize sales.
- Customer Service: Assist customers in finding items, answer questions, and provide friendly service that enhances the shopping experience.
- Support Shelter Residents: Ensure that shelter residents have access to clothing and essential items as needed, in alignment with shelter policies.
- Maintain Cleanliness and Organization: Keep the clothing section and fitting rooms tidy, ensuring a welcoming and safe environment.
- Restocking and Rotation: Regularly refresh inventory, remove unsellable items, and coordinate with management on restocking needs.
- Cashiering (if applicable): Assist with sales transactions, operate the register, and ensure proper handling of funds.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with store staff, volunteers, and shelter personnel to support store operations and the shelter’s mission.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Passion for retail and a commitment to supporting survivors of domestic violence.
- Experience in retail, thrift stores, or clothing management is preferred but not required.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to lift and move donations (up to 40 lbs.).
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Sensitivity and understanding of issues related to domestic violence and trauma-informed care.
