Enjoy working with Tinker in our off-site Summer Camp programming this summer! We’re hiring energetic, positive and highly qualified Counselor-Instructors to join our amazing team!
Position Overview
This is a seasonal Summer Camp position.
We're filling 3 Counselor-Instructor teaching positions for our off-site team, running camps at our two partner locations, Lafayette Arts Hub and Boulder Museum of Contemporary Arts (BMoCA). We run two half day camps per week, from 9am - 12pm and from 1pm - 4pm. We also run Lunchtime Artists Club from 12pm - 1pm for campers staying the whole day, or just the extra hour after/before their half day camp. Camp topics include Puppy Camp, Rocks & Crystals Camp, Rainbows & Unicorns Camp, Glow in the Dark Art Camp, and Swifties Camp. All camps are for elementary aged students (ages 5-12).
Tinker @ Lafayette Arts Hub Camps run during the first two weeks of the summer, May 27 - 30 (Tues - Friday) and June 2 - 6 (Mon - Fri). Work hours are 8:30am - 4:30pm, with an 8:15am start on Mondays.
Tinker @ BMoCA Camps run Mondays - Thursdays (4 days). Work hours are 8:30am - 4:30pm, with an 8:15am start on Mondays. Tinker @ BMoCA camps run from June 9th - August 7th, with no camp and work off the week of June 30 - July 4.
Additional training days, and one week off closure are detailed below:
Virtual Onboarding Between May 5th - May 9th:
- 3 - 4 hours of virtual onboarding (asynchronous)
In Person Onboarding & Training Days:
- Monday, May 12th // 10am - 4:30pm
- Tuesday, May 13th // 9am - 4:45pm
- Wednesday, May 14th - Friday, May 16th // 9:30am - 4:30pm
- Monday, May 19th // 10am - 4:30pm (includes CPR & First Aid Training)
- Tuesday, May 20th - Thursday, May 22nd // 9:30am - 4:30pm
- TBD - Friday, May 23rd // 9:30am - 4:30pm
One week off (Tinker closed):
- Monday, June 30th - Friday, July 4th
This role includes but is not limited to:
Student check in, check out, and parent communication: Checking in students as they arrive to camp using our registration software; learning students’ names; communicating relevant information to parents; checking out students at the end of camp
Teaching art projects: Teaching the main art project each day to a small group of 7 campers; modeling each part of the process for students, keeping them engaged and excited about the project; working with artists who are feeling frustrated or need extra support with empathy and kindness; managing set up and clean up of art projects and supplies
Creating a safe, supportive, and fun Summer Camp environment: Showing up each day with warmth, enthusiasm, and excitement for your campers; maintaining an aesthetically pleasing and inviting environment; maintaining camper safety; playing games with campers; building connections and supporting peer-to-peer friendships
Setting up, breaking down, and prepping art materials and supplies: Prepping and resetting materials for upcoming projects; breaking down and putting away materials and supplies
The Tinker Way: Implementing Tinker’s values, and adhering to Tinker’s curriculum, structure, and style
Skills, Abilities, and Experience
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and teammates
- Experience working with children
- Experience teaching art to elementary aged students is preferred
- Experience with painting, drawing, mixed media, and a variety of other art mediums
- Genuine enjoyment for working with children
- Ability to successfully implement Tinker’s curriculum and structure focused on community building and relationship building
- Enjoyment for being a part of a team in a lively and busy studio setting
- Excellent people skills and enjoyment for being around people
- Ability to efficiently prioritize and with a positive work ethic
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs
Compensation
- $17 - $19/hr DOE
- Onboarding & Training Pay Rate: $15.57/hr
- PLUS a $200 bonus to be paid out at the conclusion of Summer Camp season, on the last paycheck of the season. This bonus is paid out only if the team member has completed the full term of the Summer Camp season with Tinker, and all commitments are fulfilled and duties are performed throughout the Summer Camp season.
