We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Substitute Music Director to join our performing arts school. This position has the potential to be permanent! As the Music Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and enhancing the musical education and performances within our institution. Your responsibilities will include overseeing music programs, collaborating with faculty, and fostering a creative and inspiring musical environment.
Working Hours:
The Music Director position requires a commitment of 9:30 am to 11:30 am two days (Monday and Wednesday) a week. However, flexibility may be required during peak performance seasons or special events.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible to oversee the music program for 6wks-5yr olds
- Develop activities that introduce children to music in a fun and engaging way
- Decide the best way for children to experience rhythm and percussion instruments
- Model what self-expression looks like through singing and melody
- Expose children to a variety of musical instruments and promote the use of them
- Facilitate musical storytelling experiences using visually lyrics for children to see
- Teach children how to identify and express emotions through music
- Include baby sign language in all activities
- Introduce dance by connecting music to simply movements
- Prepare children to confidently perform what they have learned
- Select and teach songs, select and teach stories, select and teach small movements to songs
- Responsible to select musical instruments, visual aids, costumes, musical accompaniment and props for performances
- Responsible for sending out observational notes in Kangarootime
- Responsible for maintaining time and attendance
- Must work as stage production for three performance shows
- Bring an instrument to each session
- Mandatory attendance at all three performance shows (Dec, March, June)
- Attend 1 on 1 with Director
- Attend all other required teacher trainings as specified by Director
Position Qualifications
- Has a diverse knowledge of music genres
- Production recording experience a plus
- Musically and vocally inclined; vocal training a plus
- Can play a variety of instruments
- Experience working with children of all ages
- Experience working with children who have high needs (Adverse Childhood Experiences or ACE's)
- Experience performing, producing shows, and stage management
- Can physically sit, stand, and keep up stamina with children
- Strong knowledge of music theory, history, and diverse musical genres.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students to achieve musical excellence.
- Creativity and innovation in curriculum design and program development.
Qualified candidates are required to have and maintain:
