Payroll Specialist

This role is an integral part of the Human Resources team, ensuring that payroll operations run smoothly and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Salary and Benefits
Competitive salary based on experience
26 paid days off (PTO) per year to start, increasing up to 44 days annually

Responsibilities
Ensure bi-weekly payroll is processed accurately and on time
Track payroll changes and special circumstances to ensure employees' pay is correct
Process and distribute PTO sell-back checks according to company policy
Forward garnishment and 403(b) contribution deductions to appropriate payees
Conduct payroll audits for active and terminated employees, salary changes, and promotions
Assist with payroll, retirement, finance, and HR audits as needed
Support year-end tax reconciliations, issue W-2s, and process tax filings
Communicate with employees and managers regarding payroll policies and procedures
Provide training and support on payroll-related matters
Pull and distribute bi-weekly and monthly reports as needed
Serve as a backup for Accounts Receivable / Accounts Payable
Assist in Human Resources and Finance as needed
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or related field, or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification
Strong knowledge of payroll functions, including preparation, balancing, and payroll tax regulations
Experience handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll processing software
Understanding of wage and hour laws, payroll tax withholding, deductions, and garnishments
Experience with payroll and retirement audits
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
