Job: Nurse Practitioner/Hospitalist

Position Summary
The Nurse Practitioner/Hospitalist performs physical examinations and patient visits, orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests, makes appropriate referrals to either a physician or specialist as needed, collaborates with physicians and staff as necessary to provide consistent care to patients, ensures quality assurance standards are met, and displays a caring and professional attitude at all times.
Essential Functions
-Provides comprehensive patient care to individuals and communities.
-Utilizes training and expert knowledge to identify areas of need based on protocols to assess, treat and refer as necessary.
-Teaches and counsels patients on health education, preventive medicine, expected outcomes of treatment, diet and other health maintenance measures, appropriate for the patient’s age and needs.
-Collaborates with physician supervisors through approved protocols to provide delivery of quality health care services.
-Collects and interprets data to provide appropriate care based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan.
-Obtains a complete history of chief complaints and other problems on patient presentation.
-Provides indicated medical treatment according to protocols, including pertinent exam directed to patient’s history and complaints and the ordering of laboratory tests, x-ray procedures and other diagnostic tests or procedures.
-Initiates drug therapy and collects specimens for pathologic examination per protocols.
-Reviews all x-rays, radiology, pathology, lab and other diagnostic reports in a timely fashion.
-Documents all relevant patient information in the patient’s chart.
-Dispenses and documents the dispensation of Class D Pharmacy drugs.
-In emergency situations, administers lifesaving procedures and medication but not to exceed current training.
-Coordinates patient care with other members of the health care teams at the Rural Health Clinic, Community Prenatal Clinic and Titus Regional Medical Center.
-Consults regularly with supervising physician on problem cases or on cases not covered by protocols.
-Provides daily clinical supervision and routine clinical training for clinic staff on treatment, infection control and laboratory policies and procedures.
-Participates in continuous quality improvement, staff meetings, and policies and procedures reviews.
-Delegates duties according to authority appropriate for Texas Nursing Practice.
-Adheres to and follows all patient experience initiatives.
-Reports to and departs from work on time and as scheduled.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
-Must be able to deal with stress while maintaining composure.
-Follows and adheres to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Work Experience
-Five years’ experience in a hospital or clinic setting is preferred.
Education
-Licensed by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners as an Advanced Practice Nurse required.
-BLS (Basic Life Support) within 30 days of hire date required.
