Position Summary
The Medical Assistant provides patient care for clinic patients under direct supervision of a registered nurse, physician and/ or practitioner, functions as primary liaison between patients, staff, and provider, and prepares patients for exams.
Essential Functions
-Assesses patient's general condition and takes vital signs and weight.
-Performs finger sticks/phlebotomy according to training.
-Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials and ensures cleanliness.
-Prepares list of needed medical supplies.
-Prepares equipment and supplies to aid provider during treatment, examination and testing of patients.
-Reinforces education to patient/family about diagnostic procedures, nutrition and maintenance of health and wellness.
-Greets and prepares patients for provider examination.
-Obtains appropriate information for preparation of visit and instructs patients in collection of samples and tests.
-Maintains/reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information.
-Records tests and examination results in patient's chart after reviewing by provider.
-Responds to/refers incoming treatment-related phone calls as advised by practitioners.
-Schedules referrals and tests.
-Maintains responsibility for follow-up and no shows per instructions of providers.
-Performs other related duties.
-Ability to demonstrate current competencies applicable to the position.
-Knowledge of basic nursing principles and protocols, and policies/procedures related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality.
-Knowledge of medical chart reporting/records.
-Demonstrates the ability to flexibly respond to changing demands.
-Demonstrates the ability to use oral and written communication effectively.
-Adheres to and follows all patient experience initiatives.
-Reports to and departs from work on time and as scheduled.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
-Must be able to deal with stress while maintaining composure.
-Follows and adheres to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Work Experience
-Three years of experience as a medical assistant/Certified Nurse Aide in an ambulatory setting or nursing unit preferred.
Education
-High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
-Certified Medical Assistant license preferred.
-Bilingual preferred.
