What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Corporate Safety position at TMG Construction?

This position can be based from one of the following office locations: Leesburg, VA, Falls Church, VA, or Riverdale, MD.
Position Description
TMG’s Director of Safety is an individual who has the knowledge, skills, and experience to promote a systematic approach to maintaining the safety and health of all TMG operations. TMG’s Director of Safety influence includes all TMG operations involving those at project sites, at TMG’s home and satellite offices, and for operations involving the transit of material and people. The objective of the position is to provide the leadership, management, guidance, resources, and training that is necessary to 1.) assure TMG’s operations result in zero claims involving insurance and no lost work time, with an incident rate that is no greater that one half of the industry average, with a positive influence on subcontractors that achieve the same outcome while being involved in TMG projects; 2.) provide the general public and stakeholders affected by TMG’s operations no elevated exposure to risk and which provide TMG’s customers a consistent approach to health and safety that results in no incident that could bring about internal and/or public scrutiny. The Director of Safety reports directly to TMG’s President.
Responsibilities of Director of Safety
- Maintain and update TMG’s Health and Safety Manual.
- Chair TMG’s Safety Committee including conducting and documenting meetings and discussions.
- Maintain and evolve the Safety Section on TMG’s intranet.
- Maintain and evolve the library of JHAs for all trades.
- Maintain and evolve the library of training aids (weekly toolbox talks, videos, power points, external resources, etc.).
- Develop a Corporate Health & Safety Plan
- Develop site-specific Health and Safety Plans.
- Develop site-specific Orientation Training material.
- Support TMG marketing efforts by preparing written responses to specific safety and health questions.
- Perform health and safety site visits at TMG’s job sites.
- Perform incident and accident investigations and reporting.
- Manage the timely recovery of individuals who are injured to return them to the workforce ASAP.
- Participate in progress meetings for business units and discuss active jobs with Superintendents and Project Managers regularly.
- Educate and keep the TMG Operations current with changing laws and evolving best practices.
- Promote a culture within TMG that inspires others to view Safety and Health as TMG’s single highest rank ordered value, which recognizes and rewards safe conduct.
- Participate in the reviews of open claims and take an active role in minimizing consequences.
- Manage “Risk Control Assessments” to ensure that TMG does not fall outside the top ten percentiles of our GCI group.
- Teach OSHA 30, CPR/first aid, and other specific safety topics.
- Maintain training records for TMG personnel related to safety and health.
- Participate in the pre-qualification of subcontractors as it relates to safety.
- Participate in industry networking functions involving safety and health, (primarily working within the GCI workshops and safety programs).
- Maintain TMG’s Safety Equipment (fall protection, sniffers, PPE, etc.).
- Provide on-call availability to assist TMG project personnel in solving safety and health issues.
- Perform site-specific safety responsibilities for projects that are high risk and/or as the required dedicated safety professionals when the need arises.
- Prepare internal and regulatory reports that are required to maintain a fully compliant safety program including OSHA 300 logs. Develop and maintain a document control system that is highly organized fashion, which allows for real-time access to any required information; and
- Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with changing regulations and best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- BS in Safety Management or equivalent and 15 years of work experience or 20 years of relevant construction safety experience without a degree.
- Minimum 10 years experience in the construction industry with a commercial and/or industrial general contractor engaged in governmental and/or institutional construction.
- Professional credentials – minimum CHST, CSP, ASP, OSHA 500 trained in good standings and current CQM, OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR/ AED.
- The ability to effectively communicate both in the English written and spoken word.
- A demonstrated working knowledge of OSHA 1926 and EM385-1-1.
- Knowledge of civil, architectural, mechanical, and electrical work; and
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of Programs, particularly Excel, Email, and other industry-standard software used in the construction industry.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to multiple office locations as needed.
- An ability to navigate job sites, e.g., go-down ladders, identify safety concerns, and implement immediate interventions.
- Able to obtain clearances to access sites.
- US Citizenship is required.

Salary : $110,000 - $125,000
