GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Athletic Director is responsible for the development and implementation of all athletic programs, NCHSAA, and NCAA eligibility. These programs include but are not limited to K-12 athletics, the NCHSAA program, NCAA college application preparation, alumni-athlete relations, and character and leadership development.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a head coach
- Minimum of one (1) year of Athletic Administration experience.
- NCAA knowledge and experience preferred
- Bilingual preferred.

- Working with the Athletics Boosters and School Administration.
- Understands and respect the diversity of students’ economic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds and situations
- Experience working in Title I schools
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends
- Applicants will need to be able to:
- plan all athletics events with all coaches,
- record-keeping of athletic physicals and ensuring eligibility requirements,
- secure game officials,
- secure game equipment and supplies, purchase all equipment, uniforms, and supplies on an equitable basis,
- work with the school bookkeeper for all budgets, ticket sales procedures, and purchases.
- The athletic director will also know about hazardous weather protocols and health and safety protocols for outdoor practices and events.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Working with the principal, selects, assigns, and evaluates coaches
- Schedules all athletic contests, fields, and facilities
- Schedules all game officials and security personnel
- Attends athletic events whenever possible, working in conjunction with the principal(s) and assistant principal(s) to ensure coverage of all home events
- Ensures student athletic eligibility according to North Carolina High School Athletic Association
- Serves as liaison with coaches and principals to address student discipline impacting team(s)
- Attends relevant meetings regarding conferences and state NCHSAA business
- Coordinates athletic budgets, working with coaches to ensure equity across all sports
- Plans and coordinates printing and selling of programs for varsity contests
- Ensures that all student-athletes are insured
- Maintains records and ensures appropriate training, including first aid training, for all coaching staff
- Maintains all required paperwork for each student-athlete
- Arranges transportation for all athletic teams
- Maintains an active, athletic program that promotes sportsmanship and welcomes competing teams and guests
- Coordinates details of visiting teams’ needs
- Supervises all ticket sales and fund-raising events of the athletic program and assumes responsibility for the proper handling of funds
- Serves as a liaison between coaches and the athletic boosters clubs
- Coordinates public relations in cooperation with the district’s Advisor for Community
- Maintains records of the results of all athletic contests and athletic scholarships
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal
TMSA Athletic Directors are expected to:
- Teach one Block (80-90 mins) of Team Sports Elective every day (background sport)
- Coach one Varsity Sport annually (background sport)
- Raise annually 100,000.00 funds to the athletic department (5K Bonus if the goal is reached)
Pre-Season:
- Ensure completion of all NCHSAA required paperwork
- Pre-participation Physical Evaluation

- Student-Athlete and Parent and Student-Athlete Pledges

- Emergency Action Plan Update and Revision
- Athletic Handbook Update and Revision
- Secure facility rentals for practices and games
- Secure Athletic Trainer for Soccer, Softball, Baseball, and Basketball (New Requirement - NCHSAA)
- Get checks from Central Office
- Pay Athletic Trainer after the game is over
- Secure School Resource officers or Police for Basketball games
- Coordinate games for all athletic teams

- Inventory uniforms and equipment
- Coordinate with uniform/equipment representatives (Johnson and Lambe Sports Equipment) on creating team stores.
- Collect Athletic Booster Payments

- Ensure completion of background checks by off-campus coaches
- Ensure coaching contracts are correct
Monthly:
- Attend Athletic Director Meetings
- Pay invoices to rental facilities
- Input on ERP
Weekly:
- Input referee payment information to ERP
- Pay officials
- Check with facilities to ensure the rental schedule for the week
- Notify coaches in case of cancellations
- Check with opposing school ADs to ensure game times and locations
Daily:
- Monitor student-athlete eligibility (GPA Requirements)
- Check in with coaches on what needs they have for practices and games:
- Coolers
- Water and Ice
- Equipment
- First-Aid supplies
- Uniforms
- Daily Monitoring Sheet (COVID)
Game Days:
- Serve as Gameday Administrator
- Arrive at least one hour ahead of the scheduled start time at the venue to prep
- There are days when we have multiple home games in different sports, so there must be someone else serving these roles at the alternate home venue.
- Have referees sign the Arbiter form and issue payment
- Collect gate money
- Continually manage games and spectators
- Update the TMSA Athletics website
Post-Season:
- Print award certificates for post-season awards
- Collect and inventory uniforms
- Follow-up on the issuance of coaching payments
Work with Administration and Central Office on the budget for the next school year.
