Position: Youth Service Worker I
Reports to: Youth Service Worker Supervisor
Location: Tennessee School for the Blind Campus, Nashville, TN
General Description:
Youth Service Worker (YSW) I is a 10-month entry-level position that is responsible for the care, oversight, and safety of special needs students at TN School for the Blind.This includes personal care (hygiene, dressing, feeding, etc.), housekeeping of cottages (organization, cleaning, etc.) leisure, recreation, and support of school activities (homework assistance, etc.). Third-shift duties include overnight supervision and room checks.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Care and supervise all students in the residential program, specifically students in assigned cottage
· Instruct students in the expanded core curriculum (ECC). Set nine week goals for students in assigned group and maintain documentation of instruction and progress
· Monitor students’ overall health and wellness. Report any concerns to the TSB Clinic and YSW Supervisor
· Work collaboratively with all TSB and department staff and maintain a high level of teamwork and collaboration with colleagues in assigned cottage
· Complete all cottage documentation as required by school and department policy to include nightly notes, all emergency drills, bussing information, weekly parent calls, student ECC logs, nine week summaries
· Attend and participate in all staff and student cottage meetings
· Support new hires and assist in training them
· Lead after school recreation events and cottage monthly meals for students and ensure appropriate levels of student participation
· Address parent concerns, and seek additional support from YSW II or YSW Supervisor as needed
· Consult with students’ educational team as needed to ensure academic needs are being supported in the residential setting
· Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or GED
· Preferred experience working with children with special needs/visual impairments
Additional Information:
- Selected applicants must verify experience/highest degree held.
- Direct deposit of paycheck on a 12 month schedule is required.
- TSB is a non-smoking facility in its entirety.
- Selected applicant must comply with the State of Tennessee Employee Drug-Free Workplace Policy, and other policies.
- As required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA), selected applicant must verify, within 72 hours of employment, his/her legal right to be employed in the United States.
- Selected applicant(s) will be required to submit to and pass a TBI/FBI background check, to include Tennessee and Federal criminal history checks, child abuse records, employment verification, and professional/personal reference checks.
