FLSA: Exempt
Contract Unit: This position is part of the Unit I (Certificated) bargaining unit.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s in Reading, Reading Specialist certificate is preferred. Applicants in a Master’s program for Reading or Reading Endorsement may also qualify.
Maryland State Department of Education teaching certificate in Early Childhood, Elementary 1-6 or Special Education with Reading Specialist.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of pedagogy related to the science of reading. Familiarity with current research-based instructional practices in reading/language arts.
Ability to administer and utilize reading assessments for the diagnostic-prescriptive teaching of reading.
Utilize technology applications including databases to create documents such as spreadsheets to succinctly organize and display student performance information.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Analyze assessment data to identify students’ strengths and needs.
Design and/or recommend appropriate tiered interventions for students according to MTSS framework.
Apply research-based supplemental and intervention reading strategies/program to address the needs of students experiencing difficulty with reading.
Plan and collaborate with classroom teachers, special area teachers, and grade level teams to align instruction for students and assist teachers with implementing recommended best practices.
Administer individual diagnostic assessments to determine the strengths and needs of students. Prepares a written report for student’s cumulative records as needed.
Use district assessments to determine the strengths and needs of students. Prepares written summative reporting of the data for dissemination to appropriate stakeholders such as parents, classroom teachers and specialized personnel to generate an effective academic program for students.
Analyze data and assist teachers in analyzing data from reading assessments (e.g., screening, progress monitoring, diagnostic, outcomes) to identify strategies and make recommendations to meet the needs of individual students.
Provide professional development regarding the five pillars of reading and the use of assessment data to inform instruction.
Serve as a resource to classroom teachers by planning with teachers to utilize effective instructional strategies to meet the individual needs of students.
