What are the responsibilities and job description for the Labor 2 - Experienced Construction Laborer position at Tom's Backhoe & Excavation Co., Inc.?
Labor 2 – Experienced Construction Laborer
Hardworking? Ready to level up? Let’s get to work.
If you’re the type who doesn’t need someone to hold your hand, knows how to spot what needs to be done, and actually wants to move up in your career, you’re exactly who we’re looking for.
We need Labor 2's—construction laborers who have put in the work, learned the basics, and are ready to take on more responsibility (And have plenty nice Hi-vis for aloha fridays). If you've worked in construction or any similar job before, this is your chance to join a local, respected crew that’s been getting it done on Maui for over 50 years.
This is not an entry-level job. We need someone who can work without being told what to do every five minutes. If you’re the kind of worker who sees a problem and handles it, we want you on our team.
WHY JOIN TOM’S?
Good Pay – $52,000 - $78,000 per year (based on experience & performance)
Steady Work – Full-time, Monday-Friday, Weekends only on an as-needed basis.
Medical, Dental, and Vision – Single coverage paid
401(k) with Company Match – We invest in you
Paid Time Off – Because you’ve earned it
Growth Opportunities – Promotions available in 90 days for the right person
We take care of our crew. If you prove yourself, there’s room to move up—fast.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
Show up on time, ready to work – Every day. No excuses.
Keep the job site clean & organized – A clean site is a safe site.
Read and follow directions – Slack updates, SOPs, foreman instructions—no guesswork.
Set up hoses & sprinklers for dust control – Keep the site compliant.
Measure & report accurately – Precision matters.
Set grade & assist with layout – Get it right the first time.
Use demo saws to cut concrete – No room for mistakes.
Run jumping jack & plate compactors – Prep like a pro.
Help with traffic control – Keep the site moving safely. Assist with IWS & piping installation – PVC, copper, DI, sewer, conduit—you should know the difference.
Identify and install road markers & layout – Accuracy is key.
Rig materials for lifting – Know your gear and your signals.
Consistently use & understand PPE – Hard hats, dust masks, gloves—no shortcuts.
Identify hazardous materials & handle them properly – Safety first.
Report safety risks immediately – We watch out for each other.
Keep trucks, yard, and job site clean – Your workspace says a lot about you.
This is a step up from entry-level. We expect you to take initiative, work safely, and get the job done right.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU:
✔ You don’t need to be reminded to work.
✔ You respect the job, the crew, and the clients.
✔ You can read, write, and understand directions.
✔ You know basic math and measurements.
✔ You can lift 50 lbs and work on your feet all day.

WHAT WE DON’T WANT:
People who show up late or don’t show up at all
Excuse-makers and complainers
Anyone who thinks "That’s not my job"
Lazy workers who need constant babysitting
