Job Description:
Tom’s Carpet & Flooring is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Bookkeeper / Accountant to manage financial transactions, maintain accurate records, and ensure smooth financial operations. This role will oversee both Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP), ensuring timely customer payments and accurate vendor payments. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in cash flow management, financial reporting, and customer account reconciliation.
Key Responsibilities:Accounts Receivable (AR) & Customer Payment Management:
- Accurately record and maintain customer invoices, payments, and account updates.
- Follow up on overdue payments through phone, email, and written communication while maintaining positive customer relationships.
- Reconcile customer accounts and resolve any billing discrepancies.
- Process payments, including checks, credit card transactions, and electronic transfers.
Accounts Payable (AP) & Vendor Management:
- Ensure timely and accurate payments to vendors and third-party contractors.
- Maintain vendor records and reconcile accounts as needed.
- Track and manage outgoing payments to maintain positive vendor relationships.
Accounting & Financial Reporting:
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on receivables, payables, and collections status for management review.
- Maintain organized financial records, including invoices, receipts, and account statements.
- Post journal entries to the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and proper classification.
Customer Service & Problem Resolution:
- Address customer inquiries related to billing and payments with professionalism and courtesy.
- Work proactively to resolve disputes and discrepancies in a timely manner.
Assist With Outsourced Accounting
- Document preparations as needed
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a bookkeeper, accounts receivable/payable clerk, or in a similar role.
- Proficiency in accounting software (Xero or similar) and Excel.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and solve problems efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the retail or flooring industry is a plus.
- Previous experience in collections or credit management.
