JOB TITLE: Molding Technician
REPORTS TO: Molding Manager
Job Classification: Non-Exempt
Job Status: Full Time - 4:00PM - 2:30AM

JOB Purpose:
The sustained operation, at an optimum level, of the Injection Molding Production Department. Performed with efficiency, cleanliness, and punctuality. With the sole purpose of producing molded product according to our customers’ needs and specifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Start, or re-start, jobs using an established process with minimal start-up rejects.
- Adjust processing parameters, within defined limits, to maintain a consistent and quality product.
- Effectively purge a machine completely clean, to transition from one material to the next.
- In an efficient and orderly fashion, Setup/Teardown molds in various injection molding machines.
- Follow a cooling diagram (mold drawing) and route coolant lines in an efficient and orderly fashion.
- Verify all auxiliary equipment for a job, is setup in an orderly fashion, and functioning properly.
- Use a variety of hand tools in an appropriate and safe manner.
- Proficiency in the Tool Gauge ERP system (IQMS) as it pertains to the position of Molding Technician.
- Generate work orders (MRO’s) for mold or equipment repair.
- Record scrap created when starting a machine, troubleshooting, or re-establishing process.
- Record time spent on tasks accurately.
- Consistently clean molds, presses, auxiliary equipment and the production floor.
- Identify obvious reject conditions and how to correct them (processing).
- At the discretion of the quality department, correct less obvious reject conditions (processing).
- Operation of injection molding machines in support of production needs.
- Assist the floor lead in the giving of operator breaks in the event of a staffing shortage.
- Operate a forklift.
- Operate a pallet jack.
- Properly stage and store molds, auxiliary equipment, and materials in a clean and organized fashion.
- Operation of all the auxiliary required on the production floor. Including: Mold heaters, Dryers, DME Hot Runner Controls, Vacuum Verification units, Core mules, and Automation (pickers, robots, conveyors, and chutes).
- Able to perform the responsibilities of the Material Handler, in the event of a staffing shortage. Including the disassembly and cleaning of dehumidifying dryers.
- Able to perform the responsibilities of the Setup Technician, in the event of a staffing shortage.
- Perform tasks with minimal supervision.
- Above all, perform the previously listed tasks in a safe manner, including the use of PPE when necessary.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform molding trials on existing and new tools at the discretion of the Molding Manager.
- Operate a reach truck.
- Ability to train Molding Technician.
- Ability to train Setup Technician.
- Ability to train Material Handler.
- Take on “5S Lean” tasks and projects at the discretion of the Molding Manager.
- Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Effective communication:
- Able to speak, read, and write English.
- Able to keep accurate quantity records.
- Able to perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Knowledge of resin properties and how to apply them.
- Knowledge and understanding of basic mold components and how they function.
- Basic mechanical skills
- Basic computer skills.

- Dependable with reliable attendance.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in a contract manufacturing organization preferred.
