What are the responsibilities and job description for the Jail Officer/Detention Officer position at Toombs County Sheriff's Office?
Responsibilities:
- Maintain security and order within the correctional facility
- Monitor inmate activities and ensure compliance with rules and regulations
- Conduct searches of inmates, cells, and common areas for contraband
- Respond to emergencies and incidents, such as fights or medical emergencies
- Escort inmates to and from various locations within the facility
- Conduct headcounts and inspections to ensure all inmates are accounted for
- Write detailed reports on incidents, violations, and inmate behavior
- Operate CCTV systems to monitor inmate activities
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Law enforcement or military experience preferred
- First aid and CPR certification required
- Strong conflict management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions in high-stress situations
- Must pass a background check and drug screening
