Position: Marine Shop Assistant
Job Summary: The Marine Repair Shop Assistant supports the daily operations of a marine repair facility, assisting technicians and customers to ensure efficient workflow and exceptional service. This role involves a combination of hands-on tasks, administrative duties, and customer interaction within a dynamic marine repair environment.
Responsibilities:
1. Customer Interaction and Communication Liaison
· Greet customers and provide assistance as they arrive at the repair shop.
· Communicate with customers regarding repair inquiries, service updates, and completion times.
· Assist customers with loading and unloading boats or equipment as needed.
· Address customer questions or concerns professionally and escalate issues to management when necessary.
· Act as a liaison between customers and service technicians, conveying service requests, updates, and recommendations.
· Address customer concerns or complaints promptly and escalate issues as necessary to ensure resolution.
2. Scheduling and Coordinating
· Schedule service appointments for customers, coordinating with service technicians to ensure timely completion.
· Maintain accurate records of service appointments, including customer information, service details, and scheduling preferences.
· Coordinate with other departments, such as maintenance, parts, and sales, to fulfill customer requests and resolve issues.
3. Administrative Support
· Provide administrative support to the repair shop, including data entry, filing, and maintaining records.
· Prepare work orders, invoices, and other documents accurately and in a timely manner.
· Assist with scheduling repair appointments and coordinating with customers and technicians.
· Handle customer payments and process transactions using point-of-sale systems.
4. Inventory Management
· Assist with inventory management tasks, including receiving, stocking, and organizing parts and supplies.
· Maintain accurate inventory records and assist in periodic inventory counts.
· Notify management of low stock levels and assist with reordering parts and supplies as needed.
5. Safety and Compliance
· Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for employees and customers.
· Follow proper handling procedures for hazardous materials and waste disposal.
· Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with regulations.
6. Shop Assistance
· Assist marine technicians with repairs, installations, and maintenance tasks as directed.
· Prepare work areas, tools, and equipment for repair jobs, ensuring they are clean and organized.
· Handle and transport parts, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently.
· Learn and apply basic repair techniques under the guidance of experienced technicians.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in marine technology or mechanics preferred.
· Previous experience in a related field, such as automotive repair, boat maintenance, or general mechanical work, is advantageous.
· Basic knowledge of marine systems, engines, and repair tools and equipment.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with customers and colleagues.
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
· Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
· Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities as needed.
Working Conditions:
The Marine Repair Shop Assistant will work between the repair shop and within the office environment, which may involve exposure to various weather conditions and physical tasks, such as lifting heavy objects and working in confined spaces.
