Job Description: CAD Technician / Designer (Qualified CADD Technician)
Position Summary: The CAD Technician / Designer is responsible for creating detailed technical drawings, plans, and designs using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software. This role requires a strong understanding of engineering, architecture, or construction principles to produce accurate and high-quality designs that align with project requirements and specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Drafting and Design:
- Prepare detailed and precise 2D and 3D CAD drawings for a variety of engineering, architectural, or construction projects.
- Convert conceptual designs, sketches, and layouts into formal drawings based on project specifications and input from engineers or designers.
- Assist in the development of detailed construction documents and specifications, ensuring compliance with local codes, standards, and regulations.
Collaboration with Project Teams:
- Work closely with engineers, architects, and designers to interpret project requirements and incorporate necessary changes into designs.
- Provide input during the design process and ensure that the final CAD drawings meet the technical and functional needs of the project.
- Participate in project meetings to review progress and adjust designs as necessary.
Quality Control and Review:
- Ensure accuracy and consistency in drawings, checking for potential errors or inconsistencies.
- Conduct reviews of completed designs to ensure they adhere to project specifications and quality standards.
- Maintain and update drawings as per changes or revisions requested by clients, project managers, or engineers.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Maintain organized records of all drafts, drawings, and revisions for future reference or project documentation.
- Prepare and submit updated versions of CAD drawings, ensuring all changes are properly documented and easy to follow.
Software Proficiency and Tools Management:
- Use advanced CADD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, MicroStation, etc.) to produce detailed drawings and models.
- Stay updated with software advancements and incorporate new techniques and tools to improve productivity and design quality.
- Manage digital files and drawings, ensuring they are correctly stored and archived according to company standards.
Site and Field Support:
- Occasionally visit job sites to take measurements, gather data, and ensure that designs are accurate and feasible in real-world conditions.
- Assist engineers or designers by making field changes to existing drawings based on site conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or technical certification in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Drafting, or related field.
- 2-5 years of experience working as a CAD Technician, CADD Technician, or Designer.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, or similar CADD software.
- Strong understanding of drafting principles, engineering concepts, and industry-specific design standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and schematics.
- Familiarity with building codes, local regulations, and industry best practices.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy in drafting work.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with team members and clients.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks to meet project deadlines.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with 3D modeling or design software.
- Experience with GIS systems or spatial analysis.
- Knowledge of construction, land development, or architectural design practices.
- Certification in AutoCAD or other relevant CADD software is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily office-based work, with occasional site visits for data collection or project support.
- Typical working hours, with occasional need for overtime depending on project deadlines.
