Job Overview

The Director of Health Information Management (HIM) is responsible for overseeing the department’s operations, ensuring compliance with clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical standards. This role involves managing staff, optimizing information systems, maintaining quality control, and supporting the organization’s patient care initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Departmental Leadership: Develop and implement goals, plans, and policies aligned with organizational objectives and industry standards.
• Operational Management: Direct patient care documentation, information technologies, service levels, and complaint resolution to meet performance and quality benchmarks.
• Staff Oversight: Manage hiring, training, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and professional development programs.
• Budget Management: Prepare, monitor, and evaluate departmental budgets, ensuring compliance with allocated funds.
• Regulatory Compliance: Oversee internal and external audits, ensuring adherence to all regulations and best practices.

Qualifications

• Education:
  • Associate’s degree required (or completion of a relevant program)
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Certifications:
  • Required: RHIT certification, registration with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
  • Preferred: RHIA certification
