Cashier:
Tops Marketplace, located in Plantsville, is a family-owned and operated supermarket. It's not in our nature to brag, but we were awarded the Best Market and Best Meat Market in Southington for 2021, 2022 and 2023. Tops is seeking a part-time cashier to be responsible for serving customers during check-out. MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK ON EITHER SATURDAY OR SUNDAY FOR ONE 4-HOUR SHIFT. Staring at $16.35. Weekly paychecks, ability to accrue sick time, paid rest/meal breaks, annual bonus. This is a customer service role. Must be comfortable speaking with customers. Shifts available are 3-6pm, 6-9pm and Sundays 5-9pm.
**Must be 18 or older and have graduated high school.**
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greet customers, answer inquiries, and bag groceries
- Operate scanners, scales, lottery machine, cash registers, and other electronics
- Educate customers about our new loyalty program
- Encourage customers to sign up for our weekly newsletter
- Accept payments, ensuring all prices and quantities are accurate and proving a receipt to every customer
- Responsible for handling returns and answering questions about merchandise, store policies, and ongoing promotions
- Ensure that cash is handled properly as register must balance at end of each shift
- Must be able to answer the phone and transfer calls to other departments
- Work with team members to maintain the overall appearance of the store.
- Block, stock and clean shelves
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Must have high school degree
- Must past math test on how to make change
- Cashier and customer service experience preferred, but not required
- Must have strong people skills
- Possess a solid work ethic and be accountable for offering the highest quality of service to customers
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Will require lifting and moving heavy objects as heavy as 30 pounds
- This is primarily a standing and walking position where an employee will be required to stand in one place or walk the store
