Role
Responsible for the investigation of fraudulent, illegal or improper activities to include ATM, debit cards, credit cards, remote deposit capture, ATM deposits, ACH, P2P or any other negotiable instruments used to defraud the credit union.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Reviews plastic card alerts and determines if members could be affected. Contacts cardholders to verify if transactions are valid. Closes and reissues compromised cards.
- Conducts investigations of all fraudulent activity to ensure minimal loss to the Credit Union, which includes interviewing witnesses and complainants. Research transactions and gather necessary documents to develop a case file to maintain for internal use.
- Keeps abreast of fraud trends and activities by attending webinars and training sessions
- Develops, maintains and implements policies and procedures to detect and prevent the occurrence of fraudulent activity.
- Assists with investigating fraudulent activity with remote deposit capture. ATM deposits, ACH, P2P, and online banking
- Post transactions and comments within the core system to properly freeze accounts and revoke services based on Credit Union policies which will prevent continuous fraudulent activity.
- Prepares various reports for management to update status of current investigations.
- Develops and maintains processes and procedures surrounding all Fraud activity. Support and contribute to the overall Credit Union goals and objectives with minimizing loss.
- Acts as liaison to Risk with the filing of SRAs.
- Provide member and staff support through all channels with card related inquiries.
- Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Follows established credit union policies and procedures, including but not limited to, Sarbanes Oxley controls, Business Ethics and Standard of Conduct
Knowledge & Skills
Ability to speak Spanish a plus.
Experience
2-5 years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience. Financial institution experienced preferred.
Education / Certifications / Licenses
High school degree or GED required.
Interpersonal Skills
Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and / or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving and obtaining information, as well as advising or referring, which commonly require shorter discussions.

Physical Requirements
Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Working Conditions
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise. This position may be eligible for remote work.

Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of member service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and / or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
