What are the responsibilities and job description for the HUMAN RESOURCE GENERALIST position at Torrance Casting?
This position will work closely with the HR Manager to execute Human Resource programs, policies, and procedures. This position carries out responsibilities in the areas of recruitment/employment, benefits administration, employee relations, records management, and other HR project work as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruitment/Hiring (75%)
- Coordinate and manage all aspects of the recruitment and selection process, including the internal union job bidding process, to attract and retain a full workforce.
- Organize and conduct new hire orientations, ensuring completion of all onboarding activities and appropriate new hire paperwork.
Coordinate all necessary regulatory and on-the-job training.
- Manage AA/EEO Compliance.
Benefits/Payroll (15%)
- Assist with annual benefits renewal and open enrollment.
- Provide information to employees on benefit plans and address related concerns.
- Complete, verify, and process all benefit enrollment and terminations.
- Verify attendance and hours worked, issues appropriate warning levels.
- Partner with supervisors to resolve all-time punch/keeping errors to ensure a smooth and accurate payroll.
- Manage all unemployment, medical support notices, and short-term disability claims.
Record Management (10%)
- Maintain all human resource information system records, manual and electronic.
- Perform file audits to ensure that all required employee documentation is collected and maintained.
- Manage the performance management system.
- Maintain and update Human Resource documents such as employee handbooks, directories, performance evaluations, others.
- Complete termination paperwork and assist with exit interviews.
Other Duties
- Lead the employee activity committee, attendance at events is required.
- Serve as a rotating member of the safety committee.
- Serve on outside committees to build community and industry relationships.
- Partner with the HR Manager on union negotiations, training, and other projects.
- Other tasks as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Associate or bachelor's degree in human resources or related field required.
- In lieu of degree, 3-5 years equivalent experience required.
- Manufacturing environment preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge
- Demonstrated knowledge of human resource practices.
- Knowledge of employment regulations with the DOL, EE OC, UI.
- Knowledge of organization functions and the challenges of filling the necessary roles.
- Knowledge and application of ERP and HRIS systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
Skills
- Strong written, oral communication, and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish trust and confidence.
- Skilled in the database, internet tools, social media for recruitment.
- Solid problem-solving skills to identify and resolve in a timely manner.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Daily presence in the foundry is required to communicate with employees.
- A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per company policy.
- The standard workday is 8 hours; must be able to work extended or flexible hours periodically.

Filing is necessary and would require the ability to lift files, open cabinets, bend, squat, stand on a step stool, as necessary.
They are frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle, or feel; reach with hands bend or move and lift to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
TYPICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee typically works in an office environment, however, as needed will find themselves in the plant to conduct tours, observations, meet with employees, training, etc. The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet in office areas to very loud in the manufacturing environment. Employees may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday.
TYPICAL PROTECTIVE CLOTHING/EQUIPMENT
Safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection are provided and necessary for any work conducted in the plant.
