Toshiba America Energy Systems Corporation (TAES) provides energy industry solutions – new equipment, retrofits, maintenance, outage planning and more – for current and future power generation needs in the Americas, including thermal, hydro and nuclear power plants.
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly organized Buyer to work out of our West Allis, WI office. This employee will be responsible for negotiating and procuring supplies, machined components, fabrications, sub-contracting services, and equipment necessary for the operation of the organization.
Essential Duties
- Utilize buying technical expertise to procure non -metallic components and contract services
- Conduct due diligence in the selection, qualification, and monitoring of suppliers.
- Maintain and update the approved supplier list (“ASL”) as necessary.
- Collaborate with other departments on cost savings initiatives and process improvements with suppliers.
- Communicate with vendors, in the obtainment of quotations, clarification of bids, granting of awards, and placement of routine purchase orders.
- Provide support in follow-up activities to expedite the delivery of goods/services.
- Negotiate price, volume, delivery, and payment terms with suppliers.
- Place purchase orders, track shipments, and PPV (Purchase Price Variance).
- Execute on expedites and communication of orders in accordance too project timelines and sales forecast.
- Update the ERP system to included costs, price changes, safety stock / min – max reorder quantities and delivery dates.
- Miscellaneous purchasing duties as needed.
Education and Required Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related degree program or equivalent purchasing experience.
- 2-5 years technical procurement activity in a manufacturing or service environment.
- Procurement of mechanical and/or electrical materials and services within the power generation industry or heavy equipment industry preferred.
- Ability to read and understand drawings.
- Experience in risk evaluation and contract management.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Effective negotiation skills.
- Solid organizational skills.
- Requires sound judgment with solid decision-making skills.
- Ability to understand technical information.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, and ERP/MRP systems.

The employee must able to lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
Work Environment
The majority of this work takes place in an office and the work environment is that of a typical office environment in a manufacturing setting where noise levels are usually moderate. Frequently the employee will interact with personnel in the plant where he/she may be exposed to higher noise levels.
