The Chief Engineer is responsible for supervising the activities of the hotel maintenance department while planning for and assisting with the repair and maintenance of the hotel’s physical plant in accordance with company standards for quality, cleanliness, guest satisfaction, safety and security.

- Collaborate with the General Manager in preparing staff work schedules and oversee staff adherence to schedules.
- Conduct visual inspections of rooms and public areas to ensure work orders are completed in accordance with Company standards.
- Monitor maintenance staff productivity, ensuring labor cost objectives are met.
- Maintain accurate equipment and supply inventory, following hotel operations procedures, and coordinating with the General Manager for necessary orders.
- Execute routine maintenance tasks, including painting, carpet/floor cleaning, and other preventive measures.
- Perform minor adjustments on HVAC systems and handle the repair and/or replacement of air conditioning units.
- Undertake minor repairs and/or replacements of room furniture, fixtures, and equipment such as television sets and light fixtures.
- Supervise and actively engage in all duties outlined in the Company’s Maintenance programs.
- Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the hotel's exterior areas, including the swimming pool, parking lot, and overall landscaping.
- Issue tools, equipment, and supplies to maintenance staff and enforce proper asset security measures.
- Report major repair requests promptly to the General Manager.
- Maintain a positive representation of the hotel, consistently wearing a welcoming smile.
- Collaborate in the day-to-day operation of the hotel alongside the General Manager.
- Contribute to the interviewing, hiring, and discipline processes of all personnel with GM approval.
- Support the General Manager in determining capital requests and overseeing existing contracts for capital projects.
- Announce presence and enter guest rooms following Company standards and procedures.
- Promptly respond to guest requests for immediate repairs.
- Ensure maintenance staff achieves satisfactory guest satisfaction, product quality, and/or mystery shopper scores, taking corrective action as needed.
- Participate actively in recruiting, hiring, training, and retaining employees who contribute to exceptional guest service and a quality product.
- Train maintenance staff to successfully perform job duties in alignment with Company standards.
- Provide advice and consult with the GM in instances of poor employee performance and/or improper behavior requiring counseling and/or discipline.
- Maintain flexibility in working hours and assist other employees in various assignments when needed.
- Perform work duties in accordance with Company safety and security policies and procedures, as well as posted OSHA, HazCom, and Blood Borne Pathogen regulations.
- Report and store lost-and-found items following hotel procedures.
- Demonstrate excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with various personalities.
- Exhibit sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Consistently work under pressure and prioritize multiple projects.
- Ability to stand and sit for extended periods, often for a minimum of 2 hours at a time.
- Frequent walking and climbing/descending stairs, accounting for approximately 50% of the time.
- Occasional climbing up and down ladders.
- General dexterity for firm and precise grasping of objects, including fine dexterity skills for tasks involving small repair tools.
- Periodic kneeling, reaching, crawling, and torso twisting to accomplish required tasks.
- Capability to push and/or pull, including when using a cart for transporting linens, tools, or operating equipment like lawnmowers and wheelbarrows.
- Regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance and up to 140 lbs. pounds with assistance.
- Three to five years of experience as a Hotel Maintenance Engineer.
- Unrestricted Driver's License
- Certified Pool Operator's License.
