What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plumbing Project Manager position at TOTAL Mechanical, Inc.?
Under the direction of the Division Manager, the Plumbing Project Manager is responsible for the estimating, design, and execution of plumbing systems, for providing support to field questions and installation problems, and for acquiring new accounts and/or projects in accordance with the Company sales and profit objectives.
Qualifications
- Education: The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering.
- Years of Relevant Work Experience: Minimum 2 years of construction experience in a relevant field.
- Certificates/Licenses: Valid driver’s license. Satisfactory driving record. Master Plumber and/or DE license would be beneficial.
- Physical Job Requirements: Required to sit, stand and move throughout company facilities. Must be able to perform job responsibilities in an industrial, construction site and general outdoor environment around heavy machinery and equipment.
Key Activities
- Design and Engineering Support. Design plumbing systems. Gain thorough understanding of project by reviewing all pertinent documentation, meeting with customers, visiting job sites. Serve as technical liaison between Company and external engineering/technical resources.
- Sales. Sell design build plumbing systems. Pursue meeting and exceeding annual sales goals. Develop new relationships with customers and maintain existing relationships.
- Customer Relations. Maintain the Company’s relationships with current customers. Develop relationships with new customers. Educate current and potential customers about Company’s competencies.
- New Business. Identify, develop and generate new business activity. Estimate projects/contracts in accordance with customer definitions/plans. Achieve customer and Company expectations regarding turnaround time for quotes/bids/proposals. Negotiate contracts in accordance with Company policies and objectives. Review resulting customer contracts. Ensure that contracts properly represent negotiated terms. Prepare contracts for Division Manager signature. Obtain risk management review of indemnification clauses.
- “Turn Overs” and Project Preparation. Prepare initial project documentation for “turning over” as applicable to ensure that the foreman has a complete understanding of project and contract. When not applicable for a “turn over”, execute the project properly per contract to fulfill the job requirements while working with internal teams to coordinate drawings, labor, schedule, and manage purchases/subcontracts.
- Support. Support salespeople, project managers, estimators and field foremen on workflow, issues, and/or concerns.
- Development of Staff. Assist in the selection, orientation and training of new team professionals as directed by the Division Manager.
- Best Practices. Utilize technical expertise to continually challenge and improve designs and construction practices. Participate in the development and implementation of process improvement initiatives.

A successful Project Manager continually improves construction processes to ensure that customer expectations are met in the most cost-effective manner possible, helps to build talent within the organization and supports field issues in a manner that maintains peak field productivity. A successful Project Manager will meet and exceed annual sales and profit goals.
