What are the responsibilities and job description for the Central Sterile Technician position at Total Orthopedics & Sports Medicine?
Central Sterile Supply Cleans, packages, sterilize, and stores the supplies, instruments, and equipment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. High school education or its equivalent required.
2. One or more years experience in central processing functions preferred.
3. Certification required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

4. Occasionally exert force up to 50lbs, frequently up to 20 lbs, and constantly up to 10lbs.

7. Adheres to sterilization process policies and procedures.
a. Cleans / decontaminates each item according to manufacturer’s instructions.
b. Verifies that each item is in good working condition; lubricates items when needed and inspects instruments under a microscope for damage and defects.
c. Sorts and arranges items into correct trays and wraps tray and individual items according to Center policy.
d. Accurately labels each item according to Center policy.
8. Correctly operates sterilizers, ultrasonic washers, and other equipment for processing items.
a. Positions items correctly in sterilizer and selects proper cycle; seeks assistance when needed.
b. Checks indicators for proper functioning.
c. Performs required biological monitoring tests on all sterilizers according to Center policy.
d. Maintains availability of supplies for recording continuity during sterilization process.
e. Cleans sterilizers according to Center policy.
9. Maintains inventory levels and accurate records.
a. Performs weekly inspections of all sterile items in the Center and checks for outdated items and package integrity of wrapped sterilized items; replaces items as necessary.
b. Places items in correct location.
c. Maintains adequate inventory supplies for the sterile processing area.
d. Maintains and updates the instrument tray inventory list.
e. Maintains current information regarding routine preference cards.
f. Accurately documents count of items sent to and returned by the laundry service.
10. Performs other duties as directed by the O.R. supervisor or administrator.
Pay: $29.67 - $32.53 per hour
